When is one day really six? When it's the difference between playing a college football game on Wednesday night or Thursday night.
The Boise State football team will experience both this season, beginning with Wednesday night's home opener against Bowling Green (6:05 p.m., ESPN2).
The Broncos face Fresno State on a Thursday night, Nov. 10 in Fresno, Calif.
The difference: The Broncos get open Saturdays before and after the Bowling Green game. They play the Saturday before the Fresno State game.
That means the Broncos get four days to prepare for Fresno State, but 10 days to prepare for Bowling Green ? a six-day difference.
This is the Broncos' first Wednesday night regular-season game. They previously have played on Thursday and Friday nights and at 9 a.m. on a Saturday morning ? all more difficult adjustments.
"It's easier than a normal Thursday game," coach Dan Hawkins said. "A home Friday game you can kind of stomach a little bit. A Thursday game your (preparation is) packed in there pretty good."
The Broncos usually go through three game-plan practices the week of a game. They are able to hold each of those practices twice for Bowling Green, plus they rested guys with bumps and bruises last week.
The team also took Friday off.
"I don't think playing on a Wednesday will be a factor," defensive captain Korey Hall said.
The Broncos will attend classes as possible and necessary Wednesday. They have meetings throughout the day.

If your barbecue is rusty and your cooler missing, there's good reason.
Boise State has played its past four games away from home ? three road games and a bowl game. The last home date was Nov. 20, 2004 ? a 55-14 win over Louisiana Tech.
The Broncos, who have lost three straight for the first time in eight years, still have the longest home winning streak in Division I-A at 25 games.
"That might be what our team needs right now," Hall said, "to come play with some fans that are behind us."

Korey Hall got some training at the Broncos' new multi-purpose indoor training facility before the rest of his teammates.
The construction management major served a 10-week summer internship as an assistant to the project superintendent for McAlvain Construction.
The building has shot up adjacent to Bronco Stadium since breaking ground last spring. The shell is nearly complete.
"I learned a lot," Hall said of his internship. "That's kind of what I want to get into, being a superintendent."
The most fascinating aspect of the building for Hall?
The concrete walls, which were built on the ground and tilted up into place.

Since Boise State and Bowling Green are scheduled to meet this week and the next three years, we probably ought to get to know the Falcons. Here are some facts about the Broncos' newest rival:
? The school's full name is Bowling Green State University. It's located in Bowling Green, Ohio, which is about 25 miles from Toledo in the northwest part of the state.
? Bowling Green launched the career of Urban Meyer, who was the head coach in 2001 and 2002. The former Utah coach and current Florida coach recruited some current Falcons, including quarterback Omar Jacobs.
? The Falcons have cracked the Top 25 at some point during each of the past three seasons and won back-to-back bowl games. They were the preseason favorites in the Mid-American Conference this year.
? BGSU wears all orange at home, and the Broncos' all-blue uniforms and blue field gave at least one Falcon an idea this week.
"Maybe we'll get an orange (field)," nose guard Mike Thaler said. "It would be a great attraction for Bowling Green."
? This will be Bowling Green's 11th national TV appearance in 21 games. BSU will be making its 14th appearance in 21 games.
? BSU athletic trainer George Goodridge received his bachelor's degree from BGSU.

New Mexico State quarterback Royal Gill of Eagle High will not start Friday against Cal. Coach Hal Mumme benched Gill in the second half of Saturday's loss to New Mexico and has indicated he will give backup Joey Vincent an audition this week.
Quick hits
? Boise State technically has not started a season 0-3 in its four-year history, which began in 1968. However, the Broncos were 0-3 in 1997 until Cal State Northridge forfeited its 63-23 win.
? The Broncos have not lost four straight games since 1996, when they dropped eight in a row, unless you count the Northridge game.
? This is the first time Boise State enters a game with no points in either Top 25 poll since the first week of October in 2002. The Broncos slammed Hawaii that week, and had received votes every week since until falling to 0-2 with the loss at Oregon State.
