So. Cal
Was that Stevin "Headake" Smith shooting that last jumper by Ga Tech or the BC football team or the Tulane hoops team fro the 80's?

Down 8 (of course they kept fouling until TT finally made enough FT's to get the lead from 4 to 8 where they are covering) the GT guard has 9 seconds to get down the court and get a jumper/layup/anything for a much needed cover.

Does he pass the ball quickly upcourt?
NO

Does he hurry his dribble up court?
Not really

What does he do?
Decides to run off a high screen and pull up for a 20 foot 3 pointer.

What's the problem?
I guess nothing since he's come off a screen and TT is up 8, nobody is guarding him?

Sounds great, again, what's the problem?
Well as he rises for the jumper (uncontested mind you) he "apparently" losees grip of the ball, arms flailing and it goes about 10 feet backward. Nobody around him, nobody contesting the shot, no problems what-so-ever.

I'm actually surprised that I didn't have GT getting 9 and that when TT recovered the ball across midcourt with 3 seconds left they didn't go in for the uncontested dunk at the buzzer.

Even the girlfriend, who just sat down to watch the final few minutes commented that it looked like he lost the ball on purpose....either that or "you have the worst luck".

I'd love to see that "happen" when I'm on the other side, in fact I'm waiting, patiently, but getting frustrated. If I were on the other side that guy heaves up some crappy shot that either goes in or gets rebounded and put back in as the buzzer sounds.

I thought the same thing man.....looks like it was pegged from the beginning. Since when does a guy lose the ball when he is getting ready to shoot an uncontested 3 pointer? I knew I wasnt going to get the cover....even when Tech kept missing the free throws...I knew that would keep fouling until the number got to 8:mad:

especially when Emmitt? missed two with 18 seconds left and GT down 6, comes down and the same GT guard drives in the middle of the lane...kind of get's tripped but just heaves the ball off the glass setting up a long "rebound" and TT goes the other way. I was hoping they wouldn't foul and TT did manage to try and run the clock out but of course GT fouls with 9 seconds left and then Emmitt hits both, I knew it was coming.

I guess you had to see the ending of the game to start thinking this way. GT cut it to 74-70, gets a steal and fires up a quick, bad shot and then preceeds to begin the foul fest and never scores again with strange things "happening"????????

Kind of strange to me.

seems like TT made their last 4 FTs so if the fix was in, maybe it be there ... people are always reaching for this fix theory, how many times has it been proved, youd think with the min. of 1000 posts I have read in all sports, the truth would come out more often

BTW, Oswald didnt shoot JFK, annie oakley did

I don't believe in the fix theory

BUT

when you wager on games and know the lines, it makes you wonder when completely strange things happen in the last 30 secs to minute of a game. Guys making plays to beat you/cover a spread don't fall into this category, but guys making stupid, out of character, never really seen before MISTAKES makes me raise an eyebrow.

not sure what to think.....with being a former athlete, the competitiveness of players is unmatched. I definatly do not think that teams get into the huddle and plan on how to ruin a cover, etc. BUT with the way that sports gambling is so easily accessable via internet, and the way that college kids are for the most part poor kids with no money. All it takes is one guy with a little action on the game.....and there you have it. He starts mysteriously falling on the ground giving up the ball....or losing the ball before throwing up a prayer jump shot. You guys think that some of these guys dont want to win so bad.....that they offset the joy of winning with a nice bet on the other side? I think no question the answer is yes. I know for a fact that many college athletes gamble on games. At least at my college (Bowling Green) they do. Whether they gamble for or against their own teams remains to be seen....but considering the fact that most of these kids are AMATEURS and will never play professionally, I can safely say that some of these kids are making a buck.

I think what happened here is that a few guys on GA tech realized that they aint winning this one....so they better get working on that bet they placed on Texas Tech -7.5. LOL! OK well my last statement may be a little harsh....but dont write it off as completely untrue.
