I was one of the idiots who ripped on Iowa and most of the big ten.. I did tell my SEC buddies that beware of the BIG 10 covering in the bowls because people usually go against them..

Ohio State... A goofy team that I can never predict but when on the fence go with them instead of against. Always play solid defense and just when you expect a low scoring game they open it up.

Iowa.. They lost to an improving Northwestern team late in the year and played OSU to the wire.. Good defensive team.

Penn St.. Never know what you will get with them .. Look like world beaters some days and just ordinary on others..

Wisky.. I thought they were over rated too but when it comes to Bowl games they do very well. I think this team improved as the year went on.. Their pass defense was terrible early in the season.

Northwestern.. A team that suprised many people with how gritty they have been. Their defense got better in the BIG ten as the year went by.. They were getting pounded by Purdue in the first quarter then they rallied to win and never looked back..

Gophers.. My team,, a pathetic team at that.. Got a bowl because of a shit schedule.. Beat a South Dakota St. team by a point. Lack of running game and the QB misses tons of throws.. Defense mediocre.

Purdue.. All offense and no defense what so ever.. This team had tons of turnovers and penalties.

Indiana.. Don't know much about them other than they covered a lot for me when I played them..

Illinois.. Dissappointing year but they did improve as the season moved on. Juice at Qb didn't have the year that was expected and the defense stumbled out of the gate.

MSU.. They played hard in many games.. Tough loss against Notre Dame that kind of put a sour taste in their mouth..

Michigan.. Don't know what to think of this team. I would watch out for them in years to come.

So I guess if you look at this conference as a whoile, there are some real good teams but the middle terams are not that bad at all. JMO.. I cant believe I just went through all of this. :sadwave:

A month ago i defended the big ten conference and the iowa hawkeyes when many doubted Iowa and the conference. Those who said Iowa was not deserving of the # 3 ranking at the time and the big ten sucks. We'll those experienced handicappers Made a killing on the big ten this year in the bowls because just like many on here , the perception was weak and you continued to bet against them and drove the lines up for many to really cash in on. Some of the inexperienced or so called rookies were even saying that when usc plays in the rose bowl,lol they will be favored by 14 points,lol It really made me upset then, but this year and very deserving so, the big ten proved to be the deepest and toughest conference and this year they proved it to everyone. Congratulations big ten fans, we took alot of shit early, but we all have had the last laugh tonight. It is great to see a great coaching staff stay with a program and not run to the highest bidder when the team is down.

I don't know how you can say the Big Ten is the deepest and toughest. Give me a break. I know you live in Wisconsin so i'll cut you some slack. Except for the BCS title game, these bowl games don't mean shit. There is never equal motivation in these games. Plus some of the matchups just are not equal. I haven't gone back and looked at any of the Big Ten bowl games this year because really I don't care. The Pac-10 went 5-0 last year. Were they the best conference. No.

THE TOP 4 TEAMS IN MY OPINION WERE ELITE TEAMS THIS YEAR -UNLIKE OTHER YEARS WHEN YOU MAYBE HAD 2 -SO THERE WERE LESS TEAMS IN THE MIDDLE BUT THE TOP 4 BEAT THE SNOT OUT OF EACH OTHER- THUS THEY ALL HD LOSSES- REALLY LIKED THE DEFENSES OF THE TOP 4- AND BELIEVE IT WILL BE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME THE BEST CONFER-NEXT YEAR

Big 10 did good in the bowls(4-3), I agree, but to say that they had "4 elite teams" is going wayyyyyyyyyy too far. Respect your opinion and your capping skills Thunder, but I think they had two really good teams in Ohio State and Iowa. I think many are making way too much of Penn St. beating LSU. LSU was just not that good in what I would consider an overall down year in the SEC. The SEC had two elite teams and a bunch of fairly good teams. I think the perception of the Big 10 nationally has been hurt because of Ohio St's drubbing by FLA and LSU in the title game three and two yrs ago respectively. That is where the true speed has been exposed. I don't think many educated fans think that a third B10 team will be destroyed by Vandy. You have to take the limited few of those with a grain of salt.

I think the only "potential" great team is Alabama and that would be if they handled Texas easily. Otherwise, I would say this was one of the most competitive years in college football history with no "dominant" team.

There is very little parity in college football. The Big 12, Pac 10 and SEC may not be as deep but they produce titles because they seem to have a lockdown on recruiting.

And as a North Carolinian I can say the ACC is outright pathetic. Look at our "best" team. GT didn't complete a damn pass until two minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. A little one dimensional???

Yeah I don't know what the deal with the ACC is. I think Virginia Tech was the best team in the ACC. They were very strong against UT in the Peach Bowl but I also don't understand the bowl tie-ins. Would would Clemson, who barely lost in the champ game, play against Kentucky? I think that is why it is hard to say which conference is stronger in bowl games because until the BCS, you rarely have a #2 vs a #2 in terms of conference to conference.

When Miami and VT came in, I really thought the ACC was going to be a powerhouse, but they have been disappointing at best. They have a bunch of good solid football teams, but hardly ever have a NC contender. You can take a look back at the ACC Champ games and see that they suffer.

For fans like me who ultimately want a playoff, we need to continue to root for Boise, TCU, etc because this will help the cause. Boise was really good the other night and Peterson is a hell of a coach when given the time to game plan.

I'm usually banging on the "Slow Ten" but have to give "kudos" to their backers this year!!! Every Big Ten Team played well against their opponent in the bowl! Wisc beat Miami Fl, Minn losing by one point, Northwestern losing by 3 in OT, Michigan St playing well against Texas Tec(but losing). Then Penn St winning vs LSU, Ohio St. beating a good spread, fast offense in Oregon, and Iowa making Georgia Tec look bad with its D-fence. I guess I wont be calling them the "Slow Ten" any more. I also will say Congratulations to Big Ten fans. Was there a better conference this year in the bowls???
