Unions in this country had their time, that time has passed.
In as much as some want to blame the problems of this country of the outrageous compensation packages of executives/CEO's the problem with the unions are equally as strong.
Unions have went from trying to protect works safety and get them FAIR working conditions as well as FAIR compensation to trying to get them the absolute most they can while legislating that they do the least amount of work for it.
How many employees, including yourself perhaps, would do as little as they possibly can or do JUST ENOUGH to keep their job while expecting top dollar for that effort. Unfortunately in America those employees outnumber the one's that understand if the company isn't healthy then sooner or later everyone is unemployed.
Check with the people in Detroit and ask them if they wished things were handled differently. I willing to be the one's that truly wanted to work and provide a living for their families would tell you they absolutely wish things were different. The one's who don't really want to work and just want the company to feed them a paycheck for as little work as possible still think they got screwed in the deal.
Both sides are guilty. I get sick when I hear about some executive making 8 figures while cutting the workforce, but unions do not understand what it takes to keep a company profitable and thus workers employed.
The cost of raw materials, natural resources and fuel are taking it's toll on even the healthiest of companies in this country. No amount of union involvement will fix that.
If you really want to throw blame around then look up your elected officials in this country. They are the people with the absolute power to change things and simply don't do it.

PenguinFan,
I do like you or your internet persona at least as we have not met, but I don't want to argue with you on this.
In as much as this is usually something worth arguing over, I agree with you on this point. I've no need to argue with you over this.
We'll disagree on this one, but I certainly wish you the very best outcome possible.
