a couple of games in the acc today have some special motivational factors in play. both will be substantial plays for me:
nc state pk: everyone has heard of phillip rivers by now, state's heisman candidate sr qb. it is an understatment to say that he is an exceptional football player and individual. today he will start his 50th game for the wolfpack, an ncaa record. his career stats are second only to ty detmer. he is married with one child, doesn't curse, drink or smoke, and drives a '96 taurus. he is the consensus team leader.
the only team that rivers has not beaten in his career is maryland, so this game sets up in storybook fashion. i was going to go to the game, but for the first time i was unable to get tickets from any of my big donor sources; they're all going themselves. it's likely you'll see ticket scalping going on pregame in the parking lots of carter-finley stadium for the first time ever. all told, it will be hard for the terps to match the pack's emotional level for this game. i look for rivers to go out a winner.
duke +6: acting coach roof is deeply admired by his players, and today, in all likelihood, they play for his job. the blue devils' turnaround since he took over for carl franks has been evident to all observers. as duke hasn't beaten archrival unc in 13 years, if roof caps the season with a win in chapel hill, it will be hard for the duke administration not to give roof the permanent hire. look for the blue devis to leave it on the field todayand, at better than 2/1, i'll even spice up this bet witha a little moneyline action.
gl today to all.
