http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeuBB_mOFIA please watch this and tell me is the ACLU a communist organization or what? I spent 20 years of my life in the service of the United States and more and more I am so fed up with the BS taking place in todays society I couldn't recommend someone joining the military today....if the people of the U.S. won't stand up then I guess we better learn to speak another language because the U.S. is doomed. Thanks for the time all.

The ACLU may be the only organization that will save this country. I don't expect the porch light to be on with most of you but, name another organization the follows the constitution of the US more closely than that group. I know this is beyond the grasp of most of you but no other organization in this country protects individual freedoms and the laws upon which this country was founded better than the ACLU. Hell, given the last 8 years of the Cheney Administration, you would think this concept would dawn on a few of you.

Your right eddie they do fight for the cause "they" believe in, and do it well. The problem is they dont actually fight for all the causes in the constitution, just the ones their agenda driven members agree with. I know this falls on deaf ears to your type, but to objective people it is pretty clear to see the intent and agenda of these people.

Second Amendment

Updated: 7/8/2008
The Second Amendment provides: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

ACLU POSITION
Given the reference to "a well regulated Militia" and "the security of a free State," the ACLU has long taken the position that the Second Amendment protects a collective right rather than an individual right. For seven decades, the Supreme Court's 1939 decision in United States v. Miller was widely understood to have endorsed that view.

The Supreme Court has now ruled otherwise. In striking down Washington D.C.'s handgun ban by a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court's 2008 decision in D.C. v. Heller held for the first time that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms, whether or not associated with a state militia.

The ACLU disagrees with the Supreme Court's conclusion about the nature of the right protected by the Second Amendment. We do not, however, take a position on gun control itself. In our view, neither the possession of guns nor the regulation of guns raises a civil liberties issue.

ANALYSIS
Although ACLU policy cites the Supreme Court's decision in U.S. v. Miller as support for our position on the Second Amendment, our policy was never dependent on Miller. Rather, like all ACLU policies, it reflects the ACLU's own understanding of the Constitution and civil liberties.

Heller takes a different approach than the ACLU has advocated. At the same time, it leaves many unresolved questions, including what firearms are protected by the Second Amendment, what regulations (short of an outright ban) may be upheld, and how that determination will be made.

Those questions will, presumably, be answered over time

Solution: Sell the small parcel of land that the cross sits on to a private party. Then it will no longer be on government property.

The ACLU does way more good than harm. It would be nice if they weren't so partisan, though.

In this particular case, it seems rather silly and a waste of money. I'm tired of people suing because they are "offended".

Eddie,

Maybe the John Birch Society?

About The John Birch Society
Ever since its founding in 1958 by Robert Welch, The John Birch Society has been dedicated to restoring and preserving freedom under the United States Constitution.

Was Cheney elected president? I must have missed that election.

P.S. I know you will come back with some accurate use of the English language to somehow diffuse my post. I already give up with a comeback;)

So Cal
I am totally shocked that a lawyer like Edward would defend the ACLU. Yes, they serve a valid purpose and have done many worthy things. But their underlyinbg philosphy clearly affects which issues they pursue and which issues they ignore.
