I read something JR Miller wrote that applies here, and I completely agree with what he said. These people are their own worst enemy because they make no effort to better themselves in any way shape or form. While I do not discount that some people genuinely do have a problem, I would say 80+% of people with "problems" just have no intent on changing, instead they wait for "things" to change for them, or society to feel bad for them and help them out. For example, if you completely took gambling away from someone who had a "problem" then they will just find another way to destroy themselves, they will turn to drinking in excess or run their credit cards up to the bankruptcy level or something. In gambling there are a few winning players and an overwhelming amount of losers, but what does the losing player do to change things? In all honesty probably very little or nothing, they just coat-tail someone different in hopes of being given a winner or two. But back to the original point, losers are losers and they do nothing to help themselves, it is their own falut. "My dad dind't love me" or "my wife left me", well I feel bad for you, but grab a big old piece of suck it up and move on. When I first started playing horses I got my ass kicked almost every day, so I didn't just keep guessing or buying tip sheets, I read books, followed the tracks I played very closely and I mean I worked at it, my ROI for the current year at the two tracks I play is +1.06, certainly not hall-of-fame material, but I am very happy to be a winning player when losing is so much easier.
