Anyone else see the ABC special last week about "addictions" in america?
They talked about "addictions' of overeating, drugs, drinking and gambling and how they are inreality "genetically determined" and these poor poor people who have them cant do anything about it other than just hope that society alters life so they can live a fulfilling life.

I loved it.

Yeah like an overweight person can't help himself or herself. The government needs to make special concessions for them. It has always baffled me how people get so large that they can't even get out of the bed. WHO keeps on bringing the food?

It's called exercise people. Get out there and play some ball, instead of sitting on the couch all day wondering, "How did I get this big."

My favorite part of it was at the end andthey had a guy on there who overcame his own problems, ON HIS OWN. And then stood there on the camera and talked about what a farce some of these "retreats" are that charge people thousands of dollars and brainwash these saps into thinking they only way they are going to overcome their PROBLEM (NOT geneticly altered addiction) is to keep shelling out the money to them.
If I knew the guy's address I would mail him a check for a hundred bucks just to say thank you.

The most outrageous part was when the fatty had said she took an aerobics company to a lawsuit because they would not hire her as a aerobics instructor.

I read something JR Miller wrote that applies here, and I completely agree with what he said. These people are their own worst enemy because they make no effort to better themselves in any way shape or form. While I do not discount that some people genuinely do have a problem, I would say 80+% of people with "problems" just have no intent on changing, instead they wait for "things" to change for them, or society to feel bad for them and help them out. For example, if you completely took gambling away from someone who had a "problem" then they will just find another way to destroy themselves, they will turn to drinking in excess or run their credit cards up to the bankruptcy level or something. In gambling there are a few winning players and an overwhelming amount of losers, but what does the losing player do to change things? In all honesty probably very little or nothing, they just coat-tail someone different in hopes of being given a winner or two. But back to the original point, losers are losers and they do nothing to help themselves, it is their own falut. "My dad dind't love me" or "my wife left me", well I feel bad for you, but grab a big old piece of suck it up and move on. When I first started playing horses I got my ass kicked almost every day, so I didn't just keep guessing or buying tip sheets, I read books, followed the tracks I played very closely and I mean I worked at it, my ROI for the current year at the two tracks I play is +1.06, certainly not hall-of-fame material, but I am very happy to be a winning player when losing is so much easier.

As for me I know a little bit about this! I have been to Treatment and I am an Addict! It is none of the above! Addiction is just a symptom of an underlying spiritual malady! Put that in your pipe and quit it! :p

Hoosier country
simple....and prevalent in today's world....and more often than not endorsed by our very own societies....lay blame on everyone and everything and accept absolutely no responsibility for your own actions or non-action....pathetic!!!
