My Sony Vaio GRX-550 laptop crapped out yesterday. Won't start up and I'm pretty sure it is the hard drive. I checked with an authorized Sony dealer and it will cost $267 to fix.

So here is my dilemna...Do i get the old computer fixed or buy a new one???

Check on EBAY for a hard drive, they are simple to replace. I replaced the one in my Toshiba laptop (before I bashed it off the wall) and they quoted me a price of over $300, I got on eon EBAY for $60 and put it in myself.

:iagree:

My harddrive crashed about 6 weeks ago, dell sent me a new one and I installed it in 1 minute, just unscrewed and took out old one/slid new one in.

ebay would be the way to go to find a new one IMO.

goodluck.

Talked to one of my "tech" friends yesterday.

Multiple problems, fan went out, hard drive fried, multiple other things from years of use.

The laptop mouse is also not functioning now.

Thinking I might just spring for another one. Called Sony, estimate of spending $300 or$700 just to repair this one. The Sony PCG-K45 looks nice.
