program that eliminates pop-ups. i rarely get any of the "picture pop-ups". what i get a shitload of is:

*grey box with the blue bar on top that says "messenger service" that pops up in the middle of the screen constantly

*you have to click "OK" to get rid of it.

*it says something to the effect of "windows messenger service....blah blah blah" and has the time on it. they range from ads for porn, weed, and computer stuff.

i know theres other threads with pop-up discussion but i just want to make sure i download the right one because i hear that sometimes the pop-up removers have the opposite effect by bringing more bullshit

I don't believe a pop up blocker will kill the "windows messenger" popups. Here is what you do assuming you have Windows XP:

Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Scroll down to "Messenger" & right click it > Select Properties > On the general tab, find the startup type & click disabled > then under Service Status, click Stop > then hit apply to save the changes & those windows messenger ads are gone.
