Terrible time for it to die on you, neighbor. Its hot around these parts right now and supposed to stay hot thru the weekend. Can't help you on a new unit; this house had a new one installed the year before we moved in--and that was 2.5 years ago--so I'm sure they are more efficient today than this one is. I wouldn't try and go too cheap, though. Or you might have to go through this again next summer...:scared
Hey--nice ride. Unless you aren't the driver of the Expedition with the "mully" Illinois plates on it...:SIB

When mine went out a few years ago, I also had my ductwork replaced, and I'm glad I did. That was the nastiest stuff ever, and I hate to think the years b4 all that stuff had been blowing thru my house!:scared I think mine wasa Bryant too.

"the bunker"
we have a trane....

i`d like to suggest that you consider that the installer of your new system put in condensate pipe connectors and a t-valve with a cap at the point in which your main unit(inside the house) connects to the condensation line.....

he put a capped t-valve in there so i can remove the cap and flush the line with a little bleach...or remove the connectors and clean the line out from the condensation tray....

this way you can stay on top of sediment build up and keep the water from backing up into your system and mucking things up....

if you have any women in the house that use powder and it`s relatively close to an intake duct,it can gum things up...

i have it on mine and i clean it out regularly....i think it`s probably extended the life of my system and saved me some service calls..
