Watched a lot of this telecast this morning. Al is making a book tour to college campuses endorsing his new book, "Lies and the Lying Liars that Tell Them".

I mainly watched it to try to get a feel of the liberal voice. He mainly blasted O'Reilly and poked fun at Rush. He also had some defamatory things to say about Bush and how bad a job he has done.

He ended with a Q&A session which turned into a sort of pep rally for the Democrats.

I've always thought Franken was an idiot who I also did not find funny especially with that Stuart Smalley bit. I feel I watched him long enough today to form another opinion on him. He is smart, eloquent, crowd pleasing, and a good speaker. He is good at what he does, and he is a good voice for the liberals/Democrats. I still don't understand how he can come to many of his ideas and conclusions, but I suppose there are plenty out there who agree with him.

What is everybody else's opinion on him, liberals and conservatives? Thanks.

Sidenote, there were several audience questions wondering why there are no successful liberal radio shows or TV shows (like O'Reilley). To me, the answer to that is easy, they wouldn't garner enough audience interest to survive. His answer was that the media is right wing and won't allow that type of show to prosper.

He must have had O Rilley dead on. At first there was talk coming out of the Fox camp about a law suite. That all disappered. What does surprise me is all the right wing talk shows dont want to say what a liberial in spending Bush has become. Or that his favorable rating is at best now 50/50. Man that is some drop from 68%.

Bush's approval rating could be 30% and that'd still be enough to get re-elected over the garbage you liberals are offering up at these debates.

djv, I've heard Rush, Hannity, and O'Reilly all question Bush's spending especially on this new prescription drug thing for seniors.

He's a vindictive idiot. Hes a hack writer best known previously for creating moronic SNL characters and who has found his niche in the world of half truths and protected libels that is polticial "humor."

The fact is Franken is the darling of the literary set, including critics who banish most conservative books to unreviewed limbo, but give him a tv show of his own and he'd be dead in 6 weeks, other than SNL, when he worked with some good people. His resume is a thin patch of rehashes and failures.

ANd BTW, in the context you used it above, the word is not "endorsing", which is normally reserved for an independent or at least separate source aligning themselves to back your product. Franken doing it HIMSELF on CSPAN would normally be referred to as "pushing", "publicising", or most often "pimping", don't you agree????

Wow, KMA, how do you really feel?? ;) Let me clarify that I didn't agree with anything that he said. I do recognize that people who do believe that might feel that he gives them a voice and that he is valuable to that sect.

BTW, I almost titled this thread " Al Franken on Cspan whoring his new book" but I didn't want others to disregard the thread immediately without first reading and giving a view. Thanks.

I also forgot, he also stumbled over this question, "Mr. Franken, would ANY democratic candidate be better than no democrat?" He really had to pause on that one before he said, yes, lol! Another thing I failed to mention was how lilly white the crowd was. The only non-white people in the crowd I saw were a Bangladeshi man and a black woman who were manufactured to pose questions. No crowd shot ever had a person who was not white. I thought that was quite interesting.

All these guys and gals should whore there books at book shows instead of in our face on TV. Including O Rilley who seems to write two a year. And his are like most just full BS. But he sits there and yaks it up on his show all week long. So he is no differnat then Al. Those liberals you keep mentioning. Well they were consevatives once. They are the ones passing all these money eating programs not the liberals. Drunked Sailors John Mc Cain calls them. Just nuts as he said yesterday. Spending and borrowing more to do it Amen John.

You obviously don't listen, because if you did, you would realize that these "right wing talk shows" are not just a giant pep rally for the republican party. They are often very critical of Bush and the party, that is why I like to listen, cause they are not just trying to brainwash the listeners to blindly follow the party line...

i used to be a fan of franken. i thought he rather good on the few snl shows that i saw him & thought he was very funny during 1996 when he covered the presidential elections on "politically incorrect" but have been totally turned off by his rants & mean spirited jabs at people that he doesn't agree with. i also saw, on c-span, his antics with oreilly. he was completely out of line.

"the bunker"
the guy

the guy

isn`t much of a comedian....so he found his niche....political hatchet man.....

and that`s fine..if done cleverly and with some witty repartee..but if you caught his act at one particular democratic political fundraiser(i believe it was),all he did was throw the "f" bomb at president bush and make a fool of himself....

he had to be drunk...i know he wishes that tape were never made public....he made andrew dice clay seem like benjamin disraeli....
