were won by republicans yesterday. This has been a historically democratic state. Hatred of Obama is at the root IMO.

Just found it interesting when I heard it.

Thanks for the post, Cie. It is interesting. I wonder, though, if the ousting of a usually majority dem is due to Obama or due to ousting incumbents as everyone is fed up with existing legislators these days. Plus, I'd guess Louisiana is still somewhat depressed economically from the Katrina fallout? Just rambling here - I appreciate the info. I have no doubt there will be an Obama backlash in the next election.

Have seen many politicians distancing themselves from O--same thing happened last admin. Even Maxine Waters the radical lib rep from CA is calling O out.

Also believe Chad's point has merit--when things are bad -vote for change across the board.

Economy will be the key--GW survived the continued bashing from press over wars and low ratings--because economy was firing on all cylinders.

Interesting note on LA elections result--immediatly following it most books took down (and still down) lines on pres election--

I had dinner with by best friend and his wife this weekend. Both are registered Dems, but his wife is a firebrand liberal. It leads to some very interesting conversations.
Anyway - I asked her what she thought of the job Obama was doing. Normally, a response from her on this would cast blame on the obstructionist policies of the (R) House yet Sat night, she openly admitted that she is unhappy with him for several reasons, that he has not made good on his campaign promises and that they would not be donating to his campaign and that she prob would not go so far as to vote for an (R) - she probably just would not vote in the Presidential election.

2 things. First, the poli radio show I heard this on yesterday is unknown to me and the host unquestionably leans right. I got home and checked elections results. While GOP dominated local and statewide elections, it was not 71-0. just wanted to clear that up. However, la state legislature was taken over by GOP in 2010 for first time and dems continued to lose seats thi election pending 8 runoffs. Bobby jindal won a landslide gub election.

Why? I think it's because LA has always been an entitlement state, and what you're seeing here involves a backlash against the perceived party of entitlement. Also, the bp spill worked against the dems, as I mention below. It will take a miracle for this state to vote blue again IMO.

As for la, much of the state did not suffer from Katrina, and the fed $ actually boosted the economy here. Housing bubble was nowhere near the disaster it was elsewhere. Gambling has paid huge dividends. Believe it or not, the success of the saints has helped the city tremendously by allowing for rebuilding and renovation of the entire superdome complex.

The one thing Louisianians hold against Obama across the board is the moratorium following the bp spill. This set folks back, and only now is gulf activity on the up. I agree with the masses here, particulary because this affected me directly.

Obama is in a tough spot. He pissed off those of us who voted for him by caving in to the Republicans on almost every issue. The Republicans hate him because the economy is in the toilet. Actually everybody hates him because the economy is in the toilet. I can't see him winning unless he does something fast and I don't see that happening.
I just hope we are not stupid enough, as a people, to vote back in the guys who started this mess in the first place.

His entire campaign was based on "yes we can"... getting youth and independent voters to believe he was different, and was going to change things. I can't see either of those giving a shit this time around. Turnout dropping from 55% down to 50% will basically doom him.

Yes, he was the perfect Neocon candidate as it turned out.

No, not really. A Neocon will take care of the poor. He will crush the middle class as both Bush and Obama are doing but, they will help the poor. They have to because it is their working class. Anyway, the Right Wing is all up in arms because of the help the poor are getting. Soooooo we will vote in another Neocon Republican and the Dems will be all pissed off at the breaks the rich get. All the while the middle class gets crushed either way.

On the other side, but good luck with your bet.

Kidding - Definitely going to get a chance to make free money unless something drastic happens. I was pretty surprised to see it at even money. It sure appears to be Mitt's campaign to run but my guess is without a defined challenger that is the reason it is still even money.

Clinton Taxes Laid Bare, Line by Line

It is a rite of spring in Washington for the White House to disclose the First Family's tax returns on this day, and typically the occasion is noted with little fanfare.

But because of the daily barrage of questions in recent weeks about the Clintons' finances, the White House decided today to try to avert any new controversies before they arose.

Sitting around the table in the Roosevelt Room, the President's top lawyers and aides reviewed Mr. and Mrs. Clinton's tax return line by line with reporters. Present for the briefing were two lawyers from the White House counsel's office (including the chief counsel, Lloyd N. Cutler); two lawyers from Williams & Connolly (the firm that represents the Clintons personally); the communications director, Mark D. Gearan, and the staff secretary, John Podesta.

The surprises yielded by the tax return were more trivial than scandalous. They showed, for example, that the Clintons paid $62,670 in Federal income taxes on an adjusted gross income of $293,757. The Clintons decided to apply a refund of $7,982 to their 1994 taxes. Television Income

Most of the income was the President's salary ($200,000 annually, but last year only $189,167 because he started on Jan. 20). From their blind trust, the Clintons received gains, interest and dividends of $42,284. Other income included $2,473 for appearances by the President and Mrs. Clinton on the Arsenio Hall Show.

The largest deduction on their tax return was $38,683 for moving expenses that the White House said was paid to United Van Lines.

In previous returns, when Mr. Clinton was the Governor of Arkansas and his wife was a partner in a Little Rock law firm, the Clintons had gone so far as to deduct $2 for underwear donated to charities. The deduction was ridiculed by comedians and pundits, and the White House did not itemize the Clintons' $17,000 in charitable contributions on the 1993 return.

A $66 deduction for the personal property tax paid on the Clintons' 1986 Oldsmobile prompted penetrating questions, like where was the car kept (somewhere in Arkansas) and who was driving it (the senior aides said they did not know).

Mr. Gearan also said that the return included $12,000 in income from a privately established fund for First Ladies, which was created around the turn of the century by Henry G. Freeman Jr., whose occupation and story the White House did not know. The fund was supposed to begin making payments to the First Lady in 1989, after Mr. Freeman's last known heir died, but litigation over the estate delayed the payouts until last year. Mr. Gearan said Mrs. Clinton would donate the money to charity.
