First off, I don't have money on this game. . .

but I never thought I'd see West Virginia up by 21 on this team, but I asked for it and so did everyone. . . I just checked back on Virginia Tech's schedule and realized, they simply haven't played anybody tough! Cuse is not that great of a team especially with VT being home.

Think I'm going to use this result as a wake up call and look around to see what other teams haven't played anybody yet but are still getting too much respect.

Miami will roll on this team people. . . their defense is too tough and VT simply doesn't have that great of an offense and certainly not a flawless offense.

Does anybody know who else is getting too much respect for the schedule they have played up to date??? I'll do some checking tonight and see if I can come up with a few for this weekend.

If I had bet this game, probably would have taken Tech and fallen in the trap. . . I can't lie and say I would have had the vision or guts to take WVU. I would have said the close game against the Canes was a fluke as Miami was looking ahead. . . I also would have thought the result against Cuse was impressive

I have some work to do tonight with checking strengths of schedule up to this point ;)

boise state.....

last 3 games of their season, the could be really overvalued. save for oregon state, theyve played nobody. their schedule is REALLY backloaded. not saying theyre not a good team (although i do think theyre down compared to recent years) but at very worst, there will be a lot of value in fresno, nevada, and hawaii the last 3 games of the season for boise. that schedule is cake and people will get impressed with blowouts vs cupcakes.

tcu is another one.....
theyve got that unique defensive scheme that makes them tough to run on, but look at that cake schedule theyve played. those are some awful, awful teams, and theyve almost dropped a couple of em (inexplicably)

Very good point about TCU. .. I am just waiting for that team to play somebody decent. . . they will get smoked.

Here's a Pac 10 team to consider:

USC. . . besides each other, who have they really played? USC caught Auburn completely off guard and everyone knows that by now. . . have them play each other again and we may see a different result. USC's last two wins were big over Stanford and Notre Dame. . . so what! We all know about Notre Dame this year. . . they smoked Hawaii. . . big deal.

I know people will think this is nuts, but I think Washington has a shot at them playing at home. I'm beginning to think 10.5 is just too many points here and a potential trap line. But I will continue to to think about it for a day or so. Still looking at others.

nickel:

i dont buy that usc is overrated at all. they slipped up to the one team that perennially gives them trouble (cal).

other than that, theyve been very impressive.

manhandled auburn. ripped asu on the road. ripped notre dame on the road.

counterargument is that asu and notre dame arent good- even though both had preseason expectations

perhaps, but usc took care of business and never allowed either opponent to feel like they were ever in the game. they ripped their will to win early.

remains to be seen if usc will run their table, but still think its a little much to call em overrated. jmo

Gman,

They've been impressive against who? Personally I don't think you can count Auburn just because they are finally starting to play like everyone thought they would. Virginia Tech was impressive against Cuse and a couple other scrubs and we all know what happened tonight. The more I look at USC, the more I see a potential same pattern as VT as many have forgotten about how Cal beat them.

Anyways, a very interesting debate and I'm still looking at other teams. . .

And no I don't think that every team is going to magically lose this particular week like VT just because they have played a suspect schedule up to this point! But its just something to consider during this time of the year.

nickel:

theyve dismantled 3 of 4 teams on the road. thats the sign of a good team that is well-coached.

they were personally responsible for sending preseason darling auburn into their early season tailspin.

then they dismantled arizona state and notre dame on the road

cal always seems to give them problems.

but really not much more you can ask of usc.

aside from cal, they have been ripping teams.

theyve won 6 times, and the closest game was 17

theyre just not allowing teams to hang around.

that should satiate most of the complainers on this forum who say "ranked teams dont put away inferior opponents like they should".

trojans not really letting anyone hang around, save for the cal upset- which wasnt entirely unexpected (closeness of the game that is)

USC is overrated? Auburn is "finally starting to play"? They got beat bad in the first game of the season because USC is really f'ing good, not because there was anythng wrong with Auburn. The next week Auburn was flat against Georgia Tech. That was 7 weeks ago. USC is the real deal.

its funny to me how sc gets so little respect nationally...they can only beat the teams on their schedule, they are like 17-2 in last 19 games! taken from article NY paper:

When Pete Carroll looks back at this season, he may wind up kicking himself over that 34-31 triple-overtime loss to Cal last month at Strawberry Canyon.
"It sickens me because our football team is so capable of being undefeated at this time but we played poorly one time," Carroll said. "The three games after the loss have been terrific games for us. We've been physical, tough on defense and the quarterback has just played beautifully. It's no fluke. We're a pretty good football team." The young Trojans - who have 20 freshmen and sophomores on their two-deep chart and are redshirting another five linemen who will be impact players next year - are the program of the future in college football.
The Trojans buried the Irish, 45-14, racking up 551yards of offense in the 75th game of the legendary rivalry on Saturday. They also unleashed another fresh face in six-foot, 190-pound freshman tailback Reggie Bush to torture Notre Dame.
Bush, who runs 100 meters in 10.4 seconds and changes directions in a flash, may be destined to become the next Marcus Allen. The 6-5 Leinart, who threw for 351 yards and four touchdowns to make Notre Dame's secondary look defenseless, might be the next Carson Palmer. Sophomore wide receiver Mike Williams, who caught nine passes for 112yards and a TD, could be the next Keyshawn Johnson. And we haven't even talked about freshman quarterback John David Booty, Chow's other prodigy.
Carroll's assembly line is on the verge of adding to its largesse. The Trojans are expected to sign defensive back Randy Estes of Los Alamitos and 6-6, 290-pound defensive tackle Thomas Herring of Los Angeles, the two best prospects in Southern California. Carroll has all but sealed off the state borders and should be cranking out NFL players on a regular basis soon. Oklahoma may have more upperclassmen who will be first-round picks, but no one has better young talent or the necessary speed to match the Florida schools in a track meet than USC.

HEY gman, doesn't this sound like conversation we had w/hellah last week...

I could not agree with G-man2 and MW more. USC is the real deal. USC would have scored 60pts on Stanford and ND but Carroll called off the dogs. What do you want USC to do? lol.

USC strength of schedule is ranked #29 in the country. USC put AU in their tailspin. Took AU couple games to get back on track. USC played its worst game against CAL and it went into triple OT's and USC handed them the game.

USC is not over-rated at all.

johnnyb:

good post. as for me, i just call em like i see em. hell, im from big ten country, im a fan of the pass-offense (the old spurrier days at florida), and im about as far away from the west coast as you can get. but good football is good football, and a good team is a good team. usc is pretty fu/ckin good. theyre solid defensively, strong at all the skill positions, and well-coached. they get my respect. theyre one of the only west coast teams that have proven to be able to adapt to an east-coast, physical game if thats whats necessary to get it done.

(nickel, as you know- i certainly respect your opinion and youre one of the cappers whom i hold in very high esteem. just offerin my opinion. agree to disagree in this case)

gman2,

No problem at all. . . I like the debate and I certainly expected more to disagree with me than to potentially agree. I just wonder how many of you who are disagreeing with me now would have thought Virginia Tech was f'ing good before their game against West Virginia?!?! LOL Maybe you can see my point a little.

Also, I NEVER said USC is overrated! Based on their results and the schedule they have had to play, I think they are in the right spot right now. But that doesn't mean they can't slip up like Virginia Tech did! Check my posts word for word. . . I simply inferred their "strength" of schedule may not be as strong as it looks on paper. . . . I got guys in here jumping on me for something I never said! Gman2 said USC is not overrated and I never disagreed. . . what I did disagree with is that he feels they have looked impressive. . . but really, against who and what good teams?

USC's lone impressive win IMO is against Auburn but I still contend Auburn was not ready for that game. . . some teams do not come right out of the gate for the first game of the year. . . USC was obviously ready.

All I know is play Auburn vs. USC once again THIS Saturday instead of Week 1, give me 23 points and I WILL WIN! You can take that straight to the bank. Auburn is much better and more polished than in Week 1. . . USC's win will LOOK like a very big/quality win, but they caught the Tigers at the right time and at the right place.

Back to the Washington game. . . I probably won't play it, but the 10.5 points looks ok to me with USC coming off the win at Notre Dame. Now they have to play on the road once again. Just my two cents. Best of luck to all this weekend and I'll be posting a couple plays before Saturday.

agreed 100% Gman,
TCU is at the top of my list. Texas was there, but Mr.Stoops helped the college football world see the light!:D :D :D

What's up guys...dont post much...but had WVU last night and tried to warn people. About TCU...i wouldn't bet on them because they are streaky. However...a guy named superbook showed a stat on here 2 weeks ago...and I have made money off of it. TCU has only trailed at halftime 1 out the last 17 or 18 games....I will be taking a large 1st half wager on them...you can research this if you want. GL with your bets
