How the hell can you take a piece of legislation (Internet Gambling) and piggyback it on a vital piece of legislation (Port Security)?? The scary thing is that the Gov't could eventually erase every single liberty we currently own with this method?

Amazing and scary. :scared

They do this all the time its called corruption. This also killed Kerry's chance to win the election because of the famous "i voted for it before i voted against it" This dumb shit Kerry never would explain why. He could have but he wouldn't. why i need a new party with 55 million followers.

The other reason they do this is to play election day games. Now pussy politicains who can't explain shit are force to vote yes on this bill. If they don't the Republicans will use this bill to show somebody is weak on terror and it will work because we live in a stupid country.

This is a great example of why I support line item vetos. The democrats squealed when this was on the table 5 or 6 months ago.

Now, let's not kid ourselves, Bush would not have vetoed the gambling part of this bill, but he would have the option.

It's all or nothing and that's how idiots like Ted Stevens is able to throw on a 70 million earmark for a bridge to an island in Alaska that has a population of like 35.

And how Iowa got appropriations for an 'indoor rainforest.'

It just goes on and on.

This isn't 'pork', per se', but it's the exact same idea.

Last day Congress is in session. Frist gets that in there. NOBODY is voting against the main point of the bill, Port security. And OF COURSE the president is going to sign it. These do nothings in Congress aren't coming back to Washington until 1/07.

These assholes are f*cking shameless.

Your wrong again Kosar. This is a good thing. You want these shamless assholes to still be in session? I like it when they are off. It means no more garbage will be passed for awhile. Can u imagine me saying this. My tax dollars in my opinion are more wasted when these pricks are working.

Yeah, i'm wrong again.

So basically, you would prefer there was no Congress at all, I guess.

Perhaps you can come up with a new constitution, 'Sponge' Jefferson.

im sarcastically saying your wrong. boy i thought you might agree with that one. Okay let them work twelve months a year. maybe they can fit in another ten bad bills. Having them off necessarily isn't a bad thing.

The only thing i like about this billi is that it only effects us sports bettors. You not gonna hear much about this on Fox News so this means Weasal, Dr Freeze, and dog have nothing to say because Fox isn't feeding them. This would be a nice time to hear there opinions since Fox cant hand them talking points.

This is why I'd like to see a certain party follow through on the Contract with America and push term limits. It behooves people in power to push through earmarks for their constituents because it has become necessary for re-election. Imposing term limits wouldn't solve them problem entirely, but it would help.

So Wilson, does this mean you weren't standing up and cheering at this long time Republican issue? :) Just joshin'ya. It is good to see you posting in here.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Matt Could you put up list of Dems (or any politician) that publically supported internet gambling-- I'd like to send them campaighn contribution.

The only verbal "squealing" I've seen from Dems was against Jack Abramoff --the lobbyist "for" internet gambling.

Wayne,

I guess I wasn't clear, but I meant the Dems were squealing about line-item vetoes.

Wouldn't make a difference in this case, as Bush certainly wouldn't veto that part of the bill, but the absurdity of that asshole Frist being able to tack that crap on about 2 hours before Congress goes into a 3 month recess is insane.

Just why we need a democratic congress. Then we can have a split in the government and the wheels will slow down and save us all money. No rubber stamping.

Wayne, I think many current legislators are well paid by lobbyists and other financial interests to do what they can to make sure this kind of legislation does/did not pass. Both republicans and democrats. Trent Lott has taken a ton of money from gambling interests, and I'm sure many democrats have as well. It is the really self-righteous, far-righties that are doing their damndest to get this legislation pushed through however they can - Frist and Kyle are two. McCain is pretty outspoken against gambling interests.

Very interesting that some conservatives can continue to support the right wing agenda and continue saying that they want government to stay out of our business, and then don't consider this to be a big deal. It is a big deal to me, and it pixxes me off.

And Sponge, Freeze has already come out in another thread here, true to his colors, and said he would rather support a politician like this and losing Internet gambling than a liberal or democrat who would tax him into the bread line. So, at least he is consistent, to be fair. Not sure about the others.

My applogies Matt I must have had Sponges remarks "You not gonna hear much about this on Fox News" lingering in my mind-- like any news media/politician will come out verbally and support it.

Quite true Chad--never thought this would get voted on let alone passed with all the money at stake--can't imagine how they let Frist slip this in.

I am not convinced it will float yet now that the legal aspects will be challenged.

I feel sorry for the poker players as they will be hit hardest--I or proxy will be wagering on golf off shore regardless of what develops--been wagering with books that restrict U.S. citizens for years so see little diff myself.

I'll whine a little on having to jump through hoops to get it done but wheres there's a will there's a way--anyone log on Neteller yet today?? you'll get an unfamiliar screne--or I did anyway.

I'm wondering if Fantasy sports will become the next realm of attack, although I don't know if this will stick. I just think it remains very disturbing, as it is not a political plus for very many politicians to come out in SUPPORT of online gambling.

People said this would never pass, and it zipped on through. I have to do more research on these bill attachment situations and how they come to pass. I think this could be a good talking/running point for future politicians, and it is probably changing my mind on the line-item veto concept. I do now see the value of having that in some instances - like this, although I doubt Bush would have used it in this case.

I stay out of this place as a matter of I don't know...

With that being said.....

WHERE THE FVCK IS ROVE HERE!

Are they (right side of the program) just going to hand over years of "worthless middle of the road politics to take away the left's weapons" by agrressively persuing this anti-gambling policy. What I'm asking is, what do they gain? and for how long does it stay sustained? All this shiit can be overturned (I would imagine) in the future at some time.

That's just it. IT HAD NO F*CKING ENERGY!

They discussed it one day in Congress a few months ago. Only a handful on either side really gave a shit, and that was that. Dropped.

Then on the last day of congress Frist somehow got that in there on a goddamn Port Security bill.

This reminds me of the Simpson's episode where a meteor was going to hit Springfield. Congress was all set to vote for saving Springfield, but then someone added funding for the "perverted arts" to the bill at the last second, and it was voted down.

Luckily for Springfield, the meteor became the size of a pebble when it finally hit earth. ....Perhaps this I-gaming legislation can end up being no bigger than a pebble by the time it reaches us too?
