Our country has turned into a bunch of politically correct Pu$$ys.

Everyday we lose a liittle more freedom:

1. You must wear a seat belt when driving a car.
2. In 20 states if your between the ages of 16-18 you can't drive a car after 9:00 P.M.
3. In 25 states if your between the ages of 16-18 you can't have more than 3 people in a car.
4. A father and son wear a War protest shirt and get arrested.
5. You can't drink more than 3 beers without getting a DUI.
6. You can't smoke
7. You can't swear in public

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST: Politcians trying to BAN internet gambling because it is immoral!!!!

We will be back in the covered wagons soon. Watch closley who you vote for. Some things from years ago were not bad. All the cost for our prisons. All we needed back then was a tree and a rope. Be aware with new laws on wire taps. Well just becareful what you say at home. It could be worse. In Singapore if you spit on the street it's a 5 dollar fine.
However after saying all that. I'll still stay here it's by far the best.
We must shape our country with the right elelcted officials. If we lose balance as we have last election. You can get strang things placed in to law.

i agree with 2 and 5 . 2 should be changed to 11 pm but if you look at stats of deaths by auto 2 and 5 make sence 3 could almost fall into that but i think 2 would take care of it because most wrecks involving teen death is due to speeding,or drinking and after 11pm .

Number 5 is a no brainer to me you should not be able to drive for 1 hour after 1 drink imo.

the other ones i think should be a choice.

Land of the free

Land of the free

Fletch is right,

Some of those items in your list are in the best interest of everyone involved. Helmets on motorcycles for example. I believe if you have you own insurance card you should be able to go helmet-less. The fact is the establishment got tired of paying for people in commas because of accidents with out proper insurance.

The others are to protect my rights. I have the right to gather in a public place and not inhale second hand smoke. I have the right to bring my children out in pulic and not have people curse at or around them. I have the right to drive down a public road and not be killed by a drunk-driver.

Your rights end when they infringe on anothers.

That is America.

Lock, your point on internet gambling, peace shirts, and hell even Prostutuion, and Pot is valid. America is also about freedom. You should have the freedom to sit in your room, worship a goat, cut off your pinky toes, and strike yourself in the head with a hammer if you wish. As long as those actions are not costing us tax dollars and harming others it should be legal.

That is what America is supposed to be.

Mr Lock,

regarding #1, how about a $5000 (or higher) deductible on your hospital stay if you are in a car accident where you weren't wearing a seatbelt. This would preserve your right to stupidly put yourself at risk, while not forcing someone else to pay for the consequences...

Personally I think they do not go far enough in drunk driving. If it was up to me, 3 DUIs and liscene should be suspended for LIFE. And if you get caught driving after that without a liscene 3 times a mandatory 10 year felony offense. Also cell phones should be banned. Hate second hand smoke also. However, on the other token I think sports wagering should be legal as should drugs. Get stoned all you want, as long you DON'T DRIVE AFTER USING IT.

I have read a lot of stupid things on message boards over the years and this one is right up there with the best of them. What an idiotic statement. I won't fly off the handle and call it racist like some folks would, but it definitely toes that line.

You must be kidding. Funny thing is it may have worked as good as the one we have today. But Racist is a BS remark.

djv might be cranky getting up there in age:D but i knew what he was talking about, he is not a racist . he was talking about you steal something you got whipped or stuck in a hot box for a few days if it was something on the line of rape or killing a few day trial and the rope came a calling and millions of $$$ were not spent on trails and things like that so less prisons and far less crime. i got the point like an eye for an eye or being scaired to break law because was not worth the fast outcome unlike today the avg death row person waits what 11.5 years or something but also sure some wrong people took the rope also so times changed. but i got his point we might go back and forth at times all in good spirts he is far from being a racist that was unfair nick i think you well i know you just took it wrong stick man. we come from the same school of writing :D

I agree with #! #5,think #2 is a good idea, never heard #3, & #4 was a mistake by overzealous cops. Some cities are banning people from smoking in public places which I don't think it is such a bad idea since smoking can do damage to other people. People should control themselves, but I am not crazy about not being able to swear in public. I am against banning people from betting on the internet, don't like people telling me what is morally correct.

I never said it was racist and I personally don't think it was intended to be racist, but when you start saying things like that you do, in fact, get a ton of people who will perceive it to be racist. I just want to clarify again that I do not think that djv's comment was meant to have anything to do with race at all but, jeez, we can't even burn a stuffed Bruin in effigy so I know there are groups of people out there who would take those comments the wrong way.

One more comment from me that comes from an old post here on this message board (I believe from ironlock) that was a transcript of a speech Dennis Prager gave. Why is smoking so bad but swearing tolerated these days? I understand the argument that smoking should be banned because it harms innocents but why does nobody see the harm in course language?

As Prager put it in that speech, obviously we value the body far more than the soul because smoking harms the body of others and swearing harms the soul of others. Please, spare me the minutae of arguments about how swear words are defined. That is nonessential to this discussion. My point is only that I believe that people who view smoking as harmful to others but swearing benign to others are wrong.
