I can?t blame the flight attendants and other employees of American Airlines for being royally ticked off. They vote for large wage and benefit concessions to try to keep their employer afloat, only to find out that the very executives who were asking them for those concessions were busy planning large bonuses for themselves and finding ways to make their pensions bankruptcy-proof. Now the flight attendants want to rescind their vote. Hell, they probably should have just walked off the job.
Yes, I?m a capitalist. I love economic freedom. I realize that free enterprise is the one economic system that has done more than any other to increase the standard of living and quality of life of hundreds of millions of people around the world. Any system, though, can be abused. And by any imaginable standard asking your employees for wage and work-rule concessions while accepting huge bonuses and guaranteeing your own pension is abuse. Bluntly stated, the corporate officers responsible for this outrage should be fired.
