fdc,

if you would have posted this message a few years ago, i would have just passed it by. but now that we have a dog(gina), i can now understand your pain. a pet becomes a part of the family
& never give you "lip". they over look your faults & wag their tails with excitement when ever you are near. and most of all they can put a smile on your face.

you have my deepest sympathy.

Sorry to hear about that FDC. It's tough. I had to put my dog in college down way back when and man it was brutal. I went to the drive through at McDonalds prior to get her a last meal. They couldn't understand what I was ordering because I was such a mess.

My condolences.

Cris

I know what you are going thru as many of your fellow forum members do as well.

We had to put our cocker spaniel down almost three yrs ago at the age of 15. My wife and I decided that at that point we wouldnt get another dog, perhaps being selfish in our feelings that we didnt want to go thru that ever again.

Well a little bit more then a month afterwards we were dog parents again. It was so hard to come home every day and no matter how shitty your day had been there was someone there to offer unconditional love, and all they asked for in return was a little attention and food and water.

My wife and I were unable to have kids and there was no question that our dog was our child. Some may think that this is absurd but its how we felt.

I would strongly urge you to get another dog if you feel you can as I think it will make your life a little more complete. You know Oprah knew how much you loved her and she would want you to be happy.

We didnt get the same breed of dog not knowing if we would unconciously compare the two.

Best of luck to you in whatever you decide, but should you decide to get another dog make sure you lets us know on the forum :)

FDC sorry to read about your dog, I have had 3 special dogs in my life, so I feel your pain. The greatest thing about a dog is when you get home they are always happy to see you. I bet there is a special puppy out there somewhere that needs your love and will in return love you. I know it may be a little early but hope you find it in your heart to look for that next special friend to enrich your life.

Chris,

Let me add my condolences also, been right where you are about 8 years ago and it still hurts. My family, wife and 2 daughters got a little shizu from a breeder for nothing because he had some problems. Now I'm saying to myself at the time, a shizu what the hell is that, well you guessed it, I became so attached to that little shit, I would have died for him.

Well for about 5 years we went threw mucho bucks fighting the problems, but "pugsy" just went along always frisky when we came in the room, then would settle down in my lap or one of the girls'. Well to make a long story short we finally had to do something because of all his sufferring and had to put him down. Naturally no one could do it, so I had to take him to the vet for the third time to get it done. I don't mind telling you, I broke down in the waiting room as I handed him to the vet, I couldn't help it, I still see those big eyes looking at me as he was taken in the back, man this is tuff and it's been almost 8 years.

Take care, it will always hurt but just think about all the love they brought to you and it helps.

Still haven't been able to replace him, I couldn't bring myself to go thru that again.

My condolances to you FDC. All of us who have owned pets know the kind of bond you can develop with these ever loyal animals. Every time it has happened to me I swear that I will never have another pet, yet always end up with one. They are great comforts. I hope this will signal the end of your run of bad luck - the rainbow is just around the corner.

it never ceases to amaze me

it never ceases to amaze me

when i read these threads...you hear about so many morons being cruel to animals and then you read a heartfelt thread like fdc`s and it kind of reinforces your faith in humanity.....

nice to know that there are so many kindhearted people out there willing to give a home to an animal in dire straits....i`ve done it several times myself......

my cat "petey"wandered up onto my deck one winter about 5 yrs ago hungry and shivering....when i tried to feed her,i got nipped for my trouble...

"petey`s' a girl, but i didn`t realize it that day until the vet asked why i named "her" petey....it was a done deal....

fdc....i feel your pain,bud.....may be a good idea to bite the bullet and look into getting another dog....i know that`s difficult....

i really hope things turn your way....i`m sure they will...hang tough,bud...g.l.

The Rainbow Bridge Story

"Just this side of Heaven is a place called The Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor, those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing, they miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent, the eager body quivers. Suddenly they begin to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, their legs carrying them faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together......."

I am so sorry bout your loss. I know how upsetting it is to lose an animal, let alone 3 dogs in one month. Remember all the good times you and Maggie shared. I hope you feel better (it takes time) :)

Once had a dog that died in my arms and others that I loved that died. I understand that feeling all too well. Peace and better days...

Sorry to hear about your dog FTC -

I hope things start looking up soon - I guess the only good thing about being at the bottom is there is nowhere to go but up..

Hang in there...
