Game 3 recap

Game 3 recap

What a pitchers' duel it was....holy cow! Washburn did as well as I'd expect him to, going 7 innings as predicted and striking out 7. He went right after the hitters, throwing 71% strikes. He was especially tough on the Twins' lefthanded batters.

Milton surprised me somewhat. Thought the Halos were going to knock him around for a few runs in the middle innings, but that didn't happen. He gave up 14 fly balls and NO ground balls!

GA and Glaus are HOT HOT HOT!! Anderson crushed the pitches and Glaus hit his 4th homer of the postseason. Percy made our collective hearts beat faster in the 9th, and was bailed out by some stellar glove work......there ARE angels in the outfield!!!:)

Scoscia putting Ochoa in was a great move. He's the best defensive right fielder they have.

Credit the Twins's play tonight, too. Some excellent defensive plays.

as for Game 4.....

as for Game 4.....

.....I feel it's the best chance for Minny to get a "W" in Anaheim. Twins will be facing righty Lackey, and Radke, their best postseason thrower, will be on the mound. I might pass this game, but might do a writeup early tomorrow (a football day). GL everyone, and I'm headed out for pizza!!!:D

For totals players, not saying that any of the next 2 games won't go over, but beware. I'd lean under if anything. Geez, if both teams continue to play great defense....then what? Just something to think about.

I know you're a Halos fan. I'd like to see them advance, too, but try to approach the write-ups objectively (with a little more perspective from the Angels side of things).

BTW, see what happens when the Rally Monkey shows up? ;)

So Cal
I was lucky enough to go to Friday night's game. Funny thing was that my wife got tickets through someone in her company that had connections in Twins front office. I was in a section with mostly Twins fans. When they tied the game up, I told them they would regret it, because it would necessitate bringing out the full force of the Rally Monkey. They have made some new videos for the playoffs that weren't shown pre-season. The whole Rally Monkey thing may seem stupid to those not familiar with Angels. But they take clips from well known movies and the action always leads up to someone seeing something with the most amazing shocked look on thwir face - voila - the Ralley Monkey is inserted. They have used Jurassic Park, Animal House, Star Trek, etc. Probably doesn't sound too funny here - you have to be there.

AUTREY'S ANGELS -123

(very sorry for the late post; game just started)

This is the anti-Radke play. I mentioned before that is probably Minny's best chance to win in Anaheim. Well, guess what? I don't think they'll do it. While Radke's postseason #'s are very impressive, he's been death on the road (.322 OBA and 6.63 ERA).
And again, I'll point to his #'s with runners on and RISP, which are .339 OBA & 11.04 ERA, and .365 & 17.64, respectively.

Lackey is somewhat of an unknown commodity. He's doesn't possess eye-popping stats, but I'll point to his success vs. LH hitting, a .208 OBA and 3.13 ERA, and only one homer allowed in 54 IP. And if the Twins get on base, his OBA is just over .230 with RISP.

Game 4 recap

Game 4 recap

Let's see......thundersticks....cowbells......RALLY MONKEY!:D

HALOS 7, TWINS 1 :spotting:

Man, I should just follow my own advice and play the Under. But the Angels come through in yet another pitchers' duel. Lackey showed what he was made of, coming through big time in his first ever postseason start, giving up only 3 hits and striking out 7 in 7 innings. Though he is a righty thrower, Lackey's .208 OBA vs. LH batters proved invaluable as Minny's 6 lefty hitters went a combined 2 for 16 against him!!!

Radke was almost as good, pitching very efficiently (57 pitches through 6 innings) until a rough 7th. Dunno about Gardenhier's management of the bullpen, but he's been sending them out like crazy lately. In any case, the Halos bullpen has shown itself to have arguably the better BP.

4-0 so far in posted series plays. (I'll only post what I believe is the best play for each of the games.) Hopefully I'll have one for tomorrow's Game 5. It might be the last one. ;)

You cannot even begin to imagine the intensity of the crowd. Well, if you have lived in New York, St. Louis, etc., you probably have. But this is something new in Anaheim. The crowd noise is softened considerably for television. I have never been to a noiser game. The amazing thing is that the crowd, a minimum of 97% Angel fans, is on their feet for almost every pitch in the second inning! This is unheard in these parts. The crowd is actually pumped for every pitch. I don't know where the fans have come from, because I am used to sitting at games where fans cheering the Lakers on tv make more noise. It is an incredible experience and a long time coming. I must admit those rice sticks make a hell of alot of noise, but they are as annoying as can be.

here it is.....GAME FIVE

here it is.....GAME FIVE

ANGELS -165

We've all been waiting for Minnesota to win one in Anaheim to send the series back to the Dome. So far it hasn't happened yet, to the chagrin of many Twinkies backers. Sure, today is THE spot for the Twins to take one, but believe me, the Halos DO NOT want to go back to Minneapolis.

While Mays had a career outing in the 1st game, I don't expect him to duplicate his success today. Angels hitters were too patient at the plate, taking 1st and 2nd pitch strikes and getting into the hole, and that resulted in only 4 hits. Expect them to come out more aggressive today. If Mays wants to throw 70% strikes today like he did in Game 1, then Mickey Hatcher will instruct his hitters to swing at those hittable pitches.

In 9 reg. season road starts, May is 2-6 with a 6.25 ERA and .326 OBA. In day games he is a horrible 0-3 with a 7.90 ERA, giving up 46 hits in 27.1 IP for a .374 OBA. And while he is very stingy when the bases are empty, it appears that he get rattled when there are runners on (.314 OBA and 10.25 ERA). With RISP, he has a .368 OBA and 17.59 ERA!

Appier is a veteran presence in the rotation. I expect him to come up big today. He will paint the corners and work around the hitters. In Game 1, he got outdueled by Mays, giving up 5 hits and 3 BB's in 5 innings. In this elimination game I don't expect the Twins hitters to take a lot of pitches. If so, Appier can continue to move the ball around the plate (in Game 1 he threw only 53% strikes). If they get on base, he'll wisely slow the game down. With men on, he has a .285 OBA and 7.91 ERA.

So while I won't say "take it to the bank" with the Halos, I really like their chances to close out the series today.

It's the top of the 6th and....

It's the top of the 6th and....

.....I really like what I'm seeing out of the Angels' bats. So far they've swung at 9 out of 13 first pitch strikes from Joe Mays. Anaheim needs to keep being aggressive.

Twins over-conservative small ball doing them in now. I'm sorry, but on the road down 3-2 in the 6th to the best hitting team in baseball you don't waste an out with a sac bunt. You go for the tie at home and sac bunt, but not here. Does Gardy really think 4 runs wins this game?? Twins disappoint by playing scared here. Also, when a guy (Koskie) can't hit a lick and strikes out 8 of 12 times -- pull the trigger and pinch hit. Biggest disappointments for my Twins: Koskie, Jones, Rivas, Guzman, Hunter, the bullpen and the defense. Just about covers it all...

I can understand the general reasoning. Just trying to get one run across the plate, with a man in scoring position.

Twins not out of it yet. How in the world did they get out of that men on 1st and 3rd with no outs jam? Angels baserunning mistakes a big reason.

WOW.......what a turning point the bottom of the 6th was. Halos should've gotten at least a run home, perhaps 2. Twins respond by plating 3. Rodriguez was throwing hard, but out of the zone.
