hey bigdad..

i know it's been done before ( brown from nd) won the heisman, but it's very tough for a wide receiver/ ko returner to win the award.

i imagine that quinn, from nd is the favorite, but depending on the price, i like the ohio st. qb to win the award.

I can put together a set of highlights that makes Ryan Leaf look like an NFL all pro on You Tube... :mj07:

Not doubting Ginn...I actually like him a lot in the Heisman race...but not ready to give it to him after a You Tube view.

Ginn Jr. is going to need a lot of touches to stay in this years race...plus I think Quinn is going to have a spectacular season and it will be hard to bump him from the top

it was charles woodson, who also played a little WR but was primarily a DB

5 out of the last 6 heisman trophy winners have been QB's with the lone exception being last year w/ Reggie Bush.

some real quality candidates this year but I think that troy smith is more of a legit contender than tedd Ginn altho ginn isn't short on the excitement

kind of flying under the radar a bit is Marshawn Lynch who I think is gonna have an enormous season. he is the real deal

With the recent heisman trend favoring QB's so much it is impossible to ignore Brady Quinn (big surprise). Barring injury his numbers will be mammoth by years end.

I think it comes down to those four players:

troy smith

brady quinn

adrian peterson

marshawn lynch

no surprises there I guess unless someone is sleeping on Lynch.

Pinnacle has Lynch listed with the 10th best odds to win. Of the other three I mentioned, Quinn is the favorite followed by Peterson and then Smith

Ginn has the 8th best odds to win

One of the reasons I like Ginn's chances is that Tressel has him working out with the CB's and given the lack of experience they have this year he will see plenty of action. Especially in the first two games as I think they will give him some time against N. Ill in the opener and definitely @Texas. People forget he was the National Defensive Player of the Year coming out of high school. This is the season I think he shows the defensive talent, much like Woodson, and obviously displays his world-class speed as a WR/KR/PR.

good point along w/ some good information

I didn't know about him taking defensive reps, is this national news?

Absent a disastrous season Quinn will win regardless of merit. Ginn or Smith could be in it if they explode against Texas. Of course as I recall Ginn's numbers in that game last year werent much better than mine.

he took reps at DB last year but osu's defense was stacked so there was little reason to overextend him. osu lost some depth on that side of the ball so they could give him some game reps in the defensive backfield which, as bigdad mentioned, is where his natural position happens to be. if ginn is consistent the entire year, he could win it. but like sun tzu said, its going to take a big game vs texas to have any shot .... and he certainly was a no-show against the horns last year in columbus, dropping catchable balls and being a non-factor. all that being said, hes still probably the most explosive player in america once he has the ball in his hands.

I don't really see where ND and Quinn have that easy of a schedule, especially to start. Opening @GT is tougher than it looks and then facing Penn State and Michigan in consecutive games I wouldn't be surprised if they lose 2 of 3. Throw in away games versus MSU and USC and the Heisman is going to a QB with at least 3 losses??? Granted Quinn may throw for 3500 yards but comparing the best college player, with the best numbers and who means the most that is Ginn ESPECIALLY if he lines up for snaps at DB. Troy Smith will have a solid season but again this is based on Ginn's returning skills, defensive playmaking ability and blazing speed at WR. Until he lost his QB you could even argue that Peterson had more value in winning the Heisman than Quinn but who knows... Regardless it should be fun to watch all of these guys.
