Sit back, folks, and enjoy yet another frightening trip into the darkest recesses of the minds of the Hollywood Left. Thus far we haven?t heard from Martin Sheen or Sean Penn. Not so for Michael Moore. While Iraqi citizens celebrate the end of 35 years of oppression, torture and murder Moore has decided it?s time for another broadside against Bush. He?s posted quite a letter on his website at www.michaelmoore.com. I?ll post the first and the last paragraphs here ? then it?s up to you to decide whether or not you want to read the rest:

Dear friends,

It appears that the Bush administration will have succeeded in colonizing Iraq sometime in the next few days. This is a blunder of such magnitude -- and we will pay for it for years to come. It was not worth the life of one single American kid in uniform, let alone the thousands of Iraqis who have died, and my condolences and prayers go out to all of them. ????..

............. Unfortunately, Bush and Co. are not through yet. This invasion and conquest will encourage them to do it again elsewhere. The real purpose of this war was to say to the rest of the world, "Don't Mess with Texas - If You Got What We Want, We're Coming to Get It!" This is not the time for the majority of us who believe in a peaceful America to be quiet. Make your voices heard. Despite what they have pulled off, it is still our country.

Yours,

Michael Moore

What a guy.

Well if we're cut and pasting particular snippets of what he wrote, check this out...

The next day -- and in the two weeks since -- the right-wing pundits and radio shock jocks have been calling for my head. So, has all this ruckus hurt me? Have they succeeded in "silencing" me?

Well, take a look at my Oscar "backlash":

-- On the day after I criticized Bush and the war at the Academy Awards, attendance at "Bowling for Columbine" in theaters around the country went up 110% (source: Daily Variety/BoxOfficeMojo.com). The following weekend, the box office gross was up a whopping 73% (Variety). It is now the longest-running consecutive commercial release in America, 26 weeks in a row and still thriving. The number of theaters showing the film since the Oscars has INCREASED, and it has now bested the previous box office record for a documentary by nearly 300%.

-- Yesterday (April 6), "Stupid White Men" shot back to #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. This is my book's 50th week on the list, 8 of them at number one, and this marks its fourth return to the top position, something that virtually never happens.

-- In the week after the Oscars, my website was getting 10-20 million hits A DAY (one day we even got more hits than the White House!). The mail has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive (and the hate mail has been hilarious!).

-- In the two days following the Oscars, more people pre-ordered the video for "Bowling for Columbine" on Amazon.com than the video for the Oscar winner for Best Picture, "Chicago."

-- In the past week, I have obtained funding for my next documentary, and I have been offered a slot back on television to do an updated version of "TV Nation"/ "The Awful Truth."

I tell you all of this because I want to counteract a message that is told to us all the time -- that, if you take a chance to speak out politically, you will live to regret it. It will hurt you in some way, usually financially. You could lose your job. Others may not hire you. You will lose friends. And on and on and on.

I'm sure he thanks you, Turfgrass, and your ilk for helping him in so many ways.

BTW, it's michaelmoore.com (two "o"s)

All it proves is that all of the attention heaped on him, primarily by those opposed to what he says, has done nothing but filled his pockets with dough and brought his movies and books to a greater prominence than before.

His main point in the article, which neither Turfgrass nor I represented very well, was that people should speak out (if they feel like it) and not be worried that "beat down" to follow by the right wingers will hurt them financially or otherwise.

He cites an increase in sales and song requests of the Dixie Chicks as further support.

"the bunker"
filled his pockets with dough

filled his pockets with dough

and his mouth and stomach with jelly donuts....it`s political,guys....i hope everybody gets it...the war is peripheral...if this was clinton, the guy would be rationalizing the action...politics run way deeper in this country than patriotism(in some circles)....

shrimp knows this....we just elected a republican governor here in maryland....the last governor left the state in an economic shambles...now,the legislature(democratically controlled) is blocking the new governor at every turn...they could give a damn about the state...it`s all politics....and it`s pathetic....

That's true, weasel. It's actually pretty funny with this guy. While I don't like Ehrlich too much at all, I couldn't have been more happy that he beat that ambitious weasel-faced rich bitch who just assumed it would be given to her. She really bugged me.

This deal with the woman he appointed for EPA chief (or something) is hilarious. The legislature said "NO" to her, but she's basically been doing the job anyway AND he was constitutionally required to appoint someone new, which he hasn't done.

You had to expect this stuff in this state though.

Anyway, back to "Michael Moore Jelly, Please"-- maybe it's political, but a major point of his film was that we tend to resort to violence, moreso than with other countries, as a way to resolve conflict. This war ties in very nicely with that theme.

No doubt about it, though -- he doesn't like Bush and he did like Clinton. I'll suggest that he wouldn't come down as hard on Clinton if Clinton was behind this war, but I don't think he'd support it either. JMO.

Tell that to the people in Iraq. P.S.- I see Hillary Clinton voted for this war, then went underground. Wonder if Michael will treat her the same way? We'll see I'm sure.:p

Half the time the public miss there goals. To sell there dam books our web sites or movies. And we fall for this chit and believe everyword. I do not mean the right believe Moore. And I dont mean the left buys into Lush. Now O' Rilley since I like him some. I will cut him a little slack. But make no mistake guys. He is in it for the money to. Along the same lines as DJV just pointed out. These guys with their radio and tv shows selling there books pisses me off. Sometimes it seems like the whole show is a comercial for the book. Especialy that slime ball Savage. He is always saying "As I pointed out in my book.." blah blah blah.
Even Howard Stern was able to get his books and movie up to number one by mentioning it on his show constantly.
I know that used to be illegal. But I guess they changed the laws somewhere down the line

nothing wrong with being in it for the $$...and nothign wrong with promoting your book on air....hey if thats what people will listen too -- then so be it...if it sucks and hte American people are brainwashed -- then that is YOUR view of America

i like Rush, i like O'Reilly, i like Savage....i am conservative and DO think for myself on every issue...doesn't mean i am brainwashed by them or believe everything they say (seems like that is the lefts argument for these guys popularity but this is a groundless accusation)....havent bought any of their books either...

i think these guys -- Moore on the left and Rush on the right -- they believe what they say...nothing wrong with profiting....

hey i give it up for even Moore on making a profit...thats good for him and thats the American way....do something with yourself and make $$ all the while being productive

REPLY: Great points, Shrimp. I was thrilled that Kathleen Kennedy Townsend lost that Maryland Governor's race (she's rabidly anti-gambling by the way). Hopefully, that dispicable mutant of the Kennedy clan's political career is finished.

When I was living back in Washington, just when she announced her bid to run for Governor a couple of years ago, I was invited to attend her birthday party (I've given a few dollars to political candidates, so I must have got placed on a suckers list). I thuoght that might be interesting, although there was NO WAY I'd vote for her being a Kennedy and being anti-gambling. I got a call from one of her minions, who asked if I would be in attendance. Wife wanted to go, so I said I would attend. The phone whore then asked me if I wanted to "charge the tickets on my MasterCard or Visa." Huh? Run that by me again? This cuunt CHARGES people to atttend her own birthday party? What next, $100 for a slice of birthday cake? I laughed my ass off and the woman on the phone hung up on me. Pretty amazing that a Kennedy, worth millions of dolalrs whould stoop so low as to CHARGE ADMISSION to her own birthday party.

Anyways, thanks for the reminder.

Nolan
