Hedge,
Let me get the required stuff out of the way first..... If counting to ten isn't working any more just try counting to three, or whatever number you can make it to, and do it several times.
Anger issues are always generated from varying degrees of ambient frustration, unrecognized self-loathing, and disappointment. Unfortunately, these are factors you cannot simply ignore or eliminate. If therapy is not for you then I would suggest doing something that will provide stop gap appreciation for yourself. Finish a project. Call on an old friend that you may have let get distant lately and ask him to lunch. Volunteer once a month at an animal shelter. All of these activities are meant for you to be able to recognize the inherent good that we all possess but forget its there. Ultimately, the "why does all the bs have to happen to me" will take on a more recognizable stance. Once you know it. You can fix it
Hope that help,
FDC
