Always nice to see the fouling down 7 with 14 seconds left. I could be retired with money lost on dogs that lose the cover in OT.

Even better...he fouls then pulls out his two best players.

then the midget decides to shoot a layup, get a rebound and a putback and then not foul?

why even shoot in the first place?

Interesting comment on that play:

Phil Martelli was just on KFAN in Minneapolis and they asked him about whether he would foul the Ohio State player at the end or let him shoot. He said ?that decision needs to be made in October?, and added comments about the good and bad of it. He added ?I would not want to be the coach who fouls when up three and then the opponent makes one and misses the 2nd , gets the offensive board and sticks it back in and now we got OT?.

Interesting take I thought, coming from a D1 coach.

of course none of them want to be that guy that loses that way in regulation because it would make national headlines and that coach would be on the hotseat

but

the idiot coach who doesnt foul, watches a three go in to tie in reg and then end up losing in ot is never nationally criticized and never heard from.

scenario two happens ALL then time.....dont think i've ever heard of scenario one happening. in my world, it's all about % and when under 5-6 seconds, fouling offers the better win %

Hitting the 3 is obviously the easier option ....than making a ft, missing a ft, getting the offensive rebound on the ft, and scoring.....and if they pull all of that off you are still tied...same as if they hit the 3....

this shouldnt even be a debate....

I agree...I think TN played their last seconds pretty good fouling up 3 with 10-15 seconds left then not fouling up 3 with 5 seconds left. If they hit the miracle shot, so be it....

actually, tenn screwed up as well....why they didnt foul singeltary on the last uva posession when he reached half court is beyond me. he ended up getting a wide open 20 foot look at a three that barely missed (a much better chance to tie than had tenn fould at half court with 3 sec left) he hits that shot and that game is heading to OT where no doubt uva wins.
