I've said this before and it bears repeating.

Under the guise of "democracy" we have a full blown class system in this country and it has nothing to do with race or religion.

The founding fathers would turn over in their graves at what this has become from what they fought and died for. King George (no pun intended) would be proud and delighted. Right out of the old Roman empire and the old caste system all over again.

We have the Patricians, the ruling class. they are afforded riches beyond belief thru power and corruption, their own retirement and generous pension system, their own top of the line tax paid health plan, the power to rule over millions of their minions with no regard for what they want or need and last but the most egregious is their arrogance, let them pay for it all mentality.

Then come the plebeians, the conquered ones and believe me we have we been conquered by the power hungry elitists in this country. We work and MIGHT ACHIEVE a modicum of success, that just makes us more complacent and we PAY FOR IT ALL.

And last but not least come the proletariat the landless welfare/working lower class that continue to multiply and feed from the lower classes of this hierarchy and contribute to it.

You say democracy, I say BULLSHIT AND ANOTHER REVOLT IS THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE IT AND IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

The Patricians have us right where they want us and they will never let it change.

NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION

Nothing will change until the rules/laws change as to the conduct of politicians, their ability to give themselves raises/perks/health benefits....and their relationship with corporations/stock/donations.

The only thing you can change is WHO goes into the system, the system has numerous conflicts of interest that go unnoticed and unaddressed, is biased towards the politicians and corrupt, few accounting systems are in place, so effectively nothing has changed and the taxpayer loses once again.

The only way to permanently change politics for the good of the people being governed is addressing the problems in the paragraph above with laws restricting or flatout outlawing those behaviors and relationships.

VOTING WILL NOT DO IT!... The rules have to change.

Ok u travel around the world much sir???

Ok u travel around the world much sir???

Almost 50 million people with no health insurance. last time i had this discussion it was found to be a fact that we are now13 or 14th in the world in providing health coverage for our citizenry. Cost of education getting pretty much out of reach for many...In Europe ya get 6 weeks vacation and 10 pers days. Most Americans cant do a week.or afford one.
Ever check travel sites.. ..30 years ago my family took 2 week vacations every year. Who do u know now that takes a 2 week vacation. Either u cant afford to go anywhere for more than 4 days 3 nights or ur job wont let u. My father bought his house with 25% of his take home pay as a mortgage payment. my mother never worked a day in her life........Now 2 people have to work and they are strapped to the genitals financially. My dates in my 20's were for lobster and steak.......now its Taco Bell or gut Buster Burger and ya go Dutch. KIds thers days cant even afford a date ..they meet in groups and hang out. I spent my 20's at midwest Playboy clubs. In Los Angeles most people cant even afford to buy a home with the old conventional down payment. They are doing interest only mortgages. How ya gonna save 50 o a hundred Grand in ur 20's to buy a million dollar home. If u were lucky to get an education u are saddled with a 1/2 a lifetime of debt. I graduated debt free and bought a new car the day i graduated for cash because i worked high paying summer jobs in Construction Breweries and Trucking companies. Fast Food Pays Min Wage sir...u gotta be real young, naive and sheltered by ur Mom...I could go on and on but u have to grow up and age a bit. Sorry fer some a the sarcasm but I dont cut a sub 100 IQ President any slack so im not gonna change for u......especially when the last one was Rhodes Scholar. The drop off is abysmal.

I totally agree with both statments that middle class is getting pinched by both sides of the income spectrum and do not enjoy the benefits each extreme gets, and the statement that middle class and people in general are enjoying the best quality of life ever.

BUT hammers post, could be the most worthless post I have seen in awhile, you talk about renting out to college kids and 70s swingers clubs and yet you write like a 7 year old. I would like you to take Dr Freeze up on the numbers and percentages of the indicators of quality of living andno doubt they are at their highs. Or we could use your approach and talk about how your dad took 2 weeks vacations when you were a kid or how you had steak and lobster as a kid, maybe your family was just very well off when you were a kid. I dont know and im not going to pretend that I know you or am trying not to offend you but come on, look up some numbers just dont spout off about the good ol days when someone gives you quality of life indicators and you ignore them and go off on other rants.
I can accept argueing that these are not true quality of life indicators but schewing the numbers about homeownership or the price of lobster and steak are not indicators of quality of life.

I do think the changing world is making a middle class lifestyle MUCH more competitive... and difficult. It just isn't handed to us anymore.

But I do agree with Dr. Freeze based solely on the fact that people view the past differently in each argument out of convenience.

It's the good old days, when the wife stayed at home and everyone had a great lifestyle when you think today's economy sucks.

Or it's the good old days when everyone had to do manual labor, we walked 3 miles in the snow every day to get to school, or washed their clothes by beating them against a rock aside a river.

Which is true? Both? Neither?

The truth is. We live in a modern world which is vastly superior to any previous generation in convenience, health care, standard of living and more.

Computers, gadgets, plastics, whatever you can think of that we use today, makes life exponentially better than ever before.
More people go to college than ever before. Women might not stay at home, but they enjoy a level of freedom that was unavailable for the previous million years.

I have no stats regarding vacation times. But I am guessing my parents didn't fly to Vegas every year for 24 hour fun, nor had they been to Hawaii 3 times before they turned 22. I don't think there were millions of Americans in the heyday of the 1950's going wherever they want via vast interstate highway systems (route 66?).

Maybe health care enrollment rates were higher in previous decades, but health care has only existed for what? 50-75 years? The system has changed and is more expensive now, but hello we live longer than we ever did in the past. Dozens of ailments are treated that never could before. We live longer with cancer, and other terminal diseases. Makes sense that those advancements cost money.

Not sure what my final point of this rant is, but I guess I just notice how people get caught up in "the grass is always greener" syndrome, and forget how great we really have it. The past is judged with blinders on, and rarely do we consider some of the awful things humans have overcome in even the past 40 years. It never makes for an easy comparison of previous generations, but I think we are doing alright.

I think a lot depends on what people deem middle class. The 50 million with out health ins is very misleading--1st that includes those thatare on mecdcade and welfare. Question is why don't they have health ins. Here in Ky cost of $500 ded with $15 office co-pay--$15 drug co pay (generic drugs) on male age 35 cost less than insight cable premier package including cable internet?
Which do you think many opt for.

To be frank I am much more concerned $42.5 million that pay no taxes--thats about 1/3 of tax filers--want to see who these people are---
