The Baltimore Orioles joined the then national league in 1892. Not sure if that counts, but think it should.

If you're talking hockey then the Maple Leafs would probably be it.

i'm pretty sure the toronto argonauts are older than any u.s. professional sports franchise; can't imagine anything in mexico or the caribbean could compete - i vote for the argos.

Actually the Argonauts were formed in 1873, while the Cincinnati Reds were formed in 1869.

"in 1869 when a fellow by the name of Harry Wright who managed a baseball club in Cincinnati declared to the world that his team was indeed professional! The club, which wore bright red stockings made for them by a young lady named Margaret Truman, was called the Cincinnati Red Stockings. With a total annual payroll of $9300, they were the first openly professional baseball team."

So, I think I win the $4000 grand prize you were offering for this question. Please mail to my P.O. box in Vegas and hope to hear from you soon kick.:D

my bad........I meant an article on the CFL website which says they are the oldest sports team........also Sports Almanac I have says they are the oldsest sports team........and according to a trivia question I heard on MOJO radio .....the Argos are the oldest sports team............. ........

well..........guess next time I ask a question.........I should know for sure what the correct answer is........

ok.......maybe I'll e-mail Guinness book of world records......they might know the answer

but if the dates for Cinci and Argos are correct....then I guess Cinci Reds are the oldest
