Anti-Creighton Sunday

Was at the MVC semis today to take in Creighton up 28 in the first half and then Wichita State go out 17-1 before giving up the lead...two observations:

1) McDermott won't be able to play in the NBA. Think Adam Morrison without the flair. He can spot up but, he is slow afoot and absolutely can't get his own shot off the dribble. He had guys four inches shorter from Indiana State beating him to the spot today. Some team will fall in love with a white guy and draft him and the GM will be fired in a couple years.

2) These teams split the seaon series but, I really like WSt. Creighton couldn't miss in the 1H, Indiana State was pathetic but, did win the 2H. Wichita went out big and I was impressed that after giving up a 16 point lead to trail by one a couple times, they ended up winning by 15. I think they are more athletic although I think they may have some trouble shooting from outside versus a zone. I'll be on the Shockers.

I disagree on your assessment on McDermott not being an NBA guy, AZBob, remember Korver who played at CU? Both are almost identical, the only thing different is McDermott's trigger a touch slower, but as far as range, posting up and foot speed, both comparable. Korver's made a living being a slow white boy that can shoot, so did Larry Bird. Plus McDermott will be back in 2013-14, inside source already told me he'll turn down going to the NBA as an early guy. He'll graduate and then can go for the money later!

Good stuff on the two teams!! :toast:

Korver is a reasonable comparison except that (I think) he is a shooting guard and has reasonable ball handling skills and I don't see that in McDermott in terms of position or skills.

It will be interesting to see what team takes him as he can certainly be a role player or even a "spark off the bench" kind of like the current Ray Allen role. I just don't think his skill set rates him as a top five player.

Thanks for the comment.

Definiitely not a top 5 guy, you are absolutely correct. He will stay in school for 1 more year. Also looked at Hayward when he was at Butler - he got better each year while at BU and was never a thought to be pro material coming out of HS, McD has worked it and next year being a senior he won't have any bargainability so hindsight he will go pro but in 2014.

Good stuff!!

This is all coming from a former scout by the way, ;)
