I'm sure they didn't hear of it when they started inhabiting Alaska around the year 1000. Like I said, I would just throw it out there because I'm sure no one here could care less about preserving indigenous culture, but to me it matters, and to them it matters. But no, as long as our cars can get here and there and our vinyl siding houses are warm - screw them and their culture that has been in existence for 1000 years.

Easy hippo I was actually making the point/joke that we have taken land that was not ours in the past why would we stop now. Sorry the humor was lost.

Sponge do you believe we would see a big difference in gas prices if a dem. wins the election. I dont like the gas prices either but until you are willing to make personal sacrifices(alternative cars/fuels) then why would the oil companies change. Dont think I am being critical because I am not changing yet either, at the same time I realize their not either. Evil or not if it is money they worry about then that is where you have to hit them!

Smurohy you are right about gas milage it has gotten worse. The funny thing is that when they improved emissions with things such as the cadalidic converter the gas milage started dropping.

Last time a dem was in office the price was .79. I think the prices will be better if a dem or a real republican gets the office and not these two con men we have in now. Not sure if you know this but they both have a history with oil. I said all along if Bush 1 would have won a second term we would have seen these prices back then. But i call a spade a spade. Clinton let these pricks merge. Probably a payoff for the low prices back in his day. there was more competition back then until he let them merge.

Every time I here someone like GW say break free of the rag heads. It tells me he has no idea where are oil comes from. Unless In Canada and Mexico and here they Ware rags. We can drill up there. But again I say only if it all stays here. Right now only 60% of Alaska oil comes to lower 48. The rest goes to Asia. Screw that.

I have read in a few places that if we replaced all of our lightbulbs with CF bulbs, then we would not need to import one drop of oil. I don't know how accurate this is.

My wife and I just purchased a "new" car. We ruled out SUVs due to gas mileage issues. We are also in the process of replacing all bulbs as our bulbs blow.

I know they are small steps, but if you want to sit around and do nothing except bitch and moan about big oil and the "crooks" in the white house, then you are no better. If you want something done, then do it.

But, of course, then you couldn't blame everything on someone else. And that makes us uncomfortable.

Do I think our household's very small steps are making a difference? I'm not smart enough to answer that. But at least I'm not some whiny little bitch that blames everyone else for my problems.

Dawgs a small step by many can end up a big step. No gas hogs here anymore. My Impala seats 5 and gets 31 MG on highway. It even gives me 21 city driving. My new washer and dryer are so much better on energy saveings.

You are more of an environmentalist than Al Gore.

Small steps help. Big steps help, too. We need to find ways to reduce sitting in our cars idling along at 5 mph. This means better highways, more and better mass transit and doing all the little things ourselves. Combine this with ethanol and hybrids and other modern tech, and we can kiss middle east oil and all of it's problems goodbye. As far as the oil companies making a profit, even a large profit: as long as I feel that I'm getting a good product for a fair price, I am fine with it. I realize that this is a almost too good scenario, but it can happen. We need to make it happen. Yes this may involve two things : slightly higher taxes or user fees and drilling in ANWAR to get us through for the next 10-15 years while the rest of the changes take place.

That's one thing I really like about my car. It shuts down completely when idling - burning no fuel at all. People always think I've turned off my engine, but it gets started again as soon as I hit the gas. That would seeto be a pretty simple technology that could be applied to all cars, but I don't know the specs of how it's done.

None of this shit helps cmon guys be serious. I buy all energy efficient appliances and i have all those twisty bulbs in my house and all they do is raise the price again. There is so much freaking oil around that in and honest world we wouldn't have a shortage for another 1000 years. Yes if i upgrade my heater i will save money until they raise it again. Now am i saving money because i got rid of my older heater? Yes until they raise it again then im back to square one unless i kept my older heater. If someone invented a car that got 1000 miles a gallon tomorrow but still ran on gas the f-cking gas would be pro rated to what it is today. That is reality. What would that be 50 dollars a gallon? They would still spew that same garbage that we need to watch what we use. Bunch of garbage. In Canada alone they say they have more oil then the Saudis stuck in that sand.

This is exactly the mentality that keeps us as slaves to oil.

If you have all your light bulbs changed, driving an energy efficient car, and have updated appliances (probably the smallest contributor) then your oil consumption goes down. PERIOD. If more and more people adopt this, then our dependence upon foreign oil goes down. PERIOD. It is very simple logic.

You can keep crying foul and crying over spilled milk, but if you break your dependence upon oil who gives a feck if it is $50 a gallon. (and if you think that happens in your lifetime, then that is another story; we MIGHT see $10 per gallon withiin 50 years)

As for providing a good product at fair prices, who says oil companies don't? I don't know the exact economics of it. But if you make $50K per year and spend $5K per year on something that provides you the ability to complete that work, is that not fair? Sounds like a good investment to me. And if you buy a hybrid and then spend $2.5K per year on gas, you just doubled your ROI. Or you can take the train/bus (if you live in bigger city) and spend $750 per year.

I am very happy that I don't live such a jaded life to always think someone else is screwing me.

Cheer up, my man, life is good.

My mentality is gonna keep me a slave to the oil companies LMFAO. Your mentality belongs on fantasy island. Keep thinking positive and maybe we can get it back down to a dollar. There is a book out now called secrets. I bet you were one of the first to get it. If you don't think the oil companies are screwing you they have you right were they want you. Clueless and out of touch with reality.
