I am a thoroughbred handicapper and usually Mountaineer only, they are dark for the rest of the year and a friend of mine who does harness only says he can do thoroughbreds better than I can do harness, he is probably right, but we are gonna start this little contest tonight at the Meadows. Any of you offer any help in this area, I will return the favor when Mountaineer starts the next meet in January.

Is your contest based on picking winners or mutual payouts?

Dave Palone practicaly owns the place and will win several races each night . If you look at their overnight sheets you will often see him down on 4-5 horses a race. When you can pick and choose like he can, he is mighty tough to beat especially now that Brian Sears has left for greener pastures.

Tough track to find value for me, so I seldom play there. Its alot like Northfield when Walter Case was there.

Couldn't have said it better myself spang. Palone basically gets his choice of horses to drive, to go along with the respect he has from the rest of the drivers there, it makes him tough to beat, but leaves little value because he's usually bet way down. Belcher actually got him to come to rinkydink Toledo raceway park to drive for him last Sunday and he put on a clinic winning 7 on the card.

As for Case....you talk about a driver and someone who can win! The problem is, the guy doesn't even have a license right now. Made a deal to turn that in, in exchange for wiping out all his fines for stuff such as kicking horses during the race which is not allowed. Not that he can't afford it, but he thinks it should be allowed and refused to pay the fines on principal. THe guy would do whatever it takes to win, but feels he get's singled out because of the attention he gets. Others will kick and not even get fined at times. Of course Case has had plenty of personal problems throughout the years, but ranks as one of the best ever and I don't think the guy has ever stiffed in his life. Does what he thinks it'll take to win even if the trainer or owner doesn't agree...He's pissed off plenty of trainers or owners in the past, but bottom line, you don't get him if you don't wanna win.
