I've seen it all

I've seen it all

Wow...I don't believe I'm seeing this post. I think this is a new level for MJ.

Good Luck, I hope you find someone.

Let us know how it turns out.

LOL Blazer...i think you're right, it is a different *level* ...... i just simply can't afford to pay *tradesmen* prices for minor work at the rate that it is around this area, and REALLY want to have the place rented out by April. most of it i could do myself if i could get the time necessary off of work :( figured i'd turn to gamblers that are sometimes known for wanting to earn a buck ;)

Be careful Mama, you get what you pay for. My dad and I have a small construction company and I have seen time after time people wanting to do things cheaper and it ends up costing them more in the long run. Hope this didn't come out sounding wrong but thought I would throw out a little "caution flag" that if you do find someone who is willing to do work cheaper than most skilled craftsman, keep a close eye on them. Good Luck and hope you find what you are looking for.:)

Go to a few apartment complexes and make an offer to one of the maintenance men. They do this for a living every single day and they are always on the hustle for a side job.

Smash, i can just IMAGINE the comments flying around here if YOU wanted to do it....LOL

Fletch, i'm dealing with YOUR smart@ass comment in messenger....

and CCrunch...... i hear ya, but it isn't really skilled trade jobs that i need done, but hear you completely on getting what you pay for. the *light* plumbing involves little to nothing, and yes, i can do that one :) most of the crap is box hauling, furniture moving and painting (some cutting of quarterround, as i am banned for life from using saws...LOL) (oh, and some scraping of tiles off of walls too ;) )

great idea Stewy :D ..... i think i'll have a hard time finding anyone in this area for less than $500 for 2 SOLID days of work tho :( suppose it still may be worth it, as if i don't get it done fast i may lose another $700 a month rent by not having it ready to roll in April ..... that way i could offer them more than i'm offering here, and have it READY!!!

Well, these guys work by the hour as make ready technicians. That's basically what you are looking for isn't it? I have met alot of maintenance men with the jobs I have done replacing decks and interior repaints. These guys are always on the lookout for some extra cash. I guess the price would depend on the job. I know the state law here in Missouri requires the whole interior of a rental to be repainted before it can be occupied again. Although the majority of people who own a rental home don't really give a crap and don't repaint it unless its nasty.

thanks again, Stewy..... the more i think about it, i MIGHT be able to get someone for $20 per hour, and your idea is fantastic about apartment complexes as opposed to *handy man* ads in the newspapers.

due to the way that i *rent* ...... (roommate with separate apartment) i'm not bound by any laws to repaint it or get it all fixed up, BUT it sure draws in more income if it is, and the downstairs apartment is desparately in need of painting (been 9 years since it's been completely redone) Think i'll hit some apartment complexes in the AM if i'm not snowbound (which is also gonna delay or cancel the cyberfares posted above) if i don't have any luck, i'll post the cities available for HELP again next wednesday.....LOL ....my butt is too cheap to pay normal airfare, so it has to be someone within cyberfare deal range :D

DAMN mama! Had you said something two weeks ago I coulda had 7 jar heads out your way that were traveling thru!
and they probably woulda worked for beer and beer alone!

Just a thought, I dunno how far out in the boonies you live but...

Bake some brownies or other tasty goodies and then run down to the military recruiting station near you. I would bet you ten to one that with a case of beer and a bag of brownies and some very minor acting like a damsel in distress you can get one of the recruiting branches to help you out for a day. They are always looking for that help the community type crap that can legitimately get them out of the office for a day.

Place a Handyman wanted in a few church bulletins and let them know what you are looking for and what you are willing to pay. (I don't go to church all that often), but maybe the religous folks would work for a hundred bucks and some Port wine :D

Call-a-teen. Or recruit some neighborhood kids. They work cheap (for the heavy lifting and stuff) That way once that's all done, the handyman will have less to do and you can pay him less. Just a thought. Good luck Annie!!!!

Madisen is doing great. My wife is breast feeding, so that means I dont have to get up at all yet. :D :D :D

Of course, I sleep heavy, so even when Madisen is crying and my wife lays her on my chest I don't even move. I have become more domesticated tho and picked up ALL the chores around the house such as dishes, cleaning, vacuuming, shopping for groceries (the clerks have dubbed me the "triple coupon King") and all the other chores that go with a house and 2 big doggies. So I manage to keep fairly busy and let her rest as much as she can.

Print it out and take it down to the recruiting office... if they hesitate, tell them you have a 17 year old son that is interested in joining and they will race you to the house.

Trust me, recruiters love getting little packages of home baked goodies. Best bet is the Marine Corps office and then the Navy office.

Ask them if they have any younger guys/gals on "hometown recruiting duty". They are more than expendable and always looking for something to do.
