The umpire blew the call, plain and simple. He's one of our weaker umps and an egomaniac to boot.
The Green Book (official LL rules) is comparable to the IRS code. and an absolute nightmare.
When the wrong call was made we told the ump that we were plaiying the game under protest. The game then continued.
It took probably two innings to find the exact rule and even then it wasn't 100% clear on what to do what the batter/runner.
Later that night the ump admitted to blowing the call.
The only thing to do was to play from the point where the play occured.
