for which he must mean 1976. Might have been a year-end list, early 1977, of top tracks from 1976. As well as some others he spoke of--e.g. Boston's first release--these three inspirations--I thank him for that--are ALL 1976 releases.

Considering my own possible mistaken critique, I see this from wikipedia page on Hotel California:
"Hotel California" is a song by American rock band the Eagles, released as the second single of their album of the same name on February 22, 1977.

Boston, Seger, Kansas and Eagles l.p.'s were all released in 1976. I ain't interested in verifying when subsequent 45's were released. I've created my own mixed tapes from 1976 and all these cuts belongs there, as all were released in 1976. To each their own.
