I'd be more concerned about all the spyware you get on your computer from having those file sharing programs on it :nooo:. No way I would ever download one of those programs on my computer again.

Kneifl....gotta agree with you big time on that one.... i had limewire for a bit over a month, and uninstalled it just 3 days ago, as it was the last thing majorly f'ing up my puter!!! still wanna know about the risk factor for a friend tho.

I have had Limewire and have had absolute no problems with it, at all. Also, if you dont share your library and dont let people download from you , you dont have to worry

Rex, that's exactly what type of info i'm looking for here...... how do you go about not sharing back?? the whole time i had it i only downloaded one song, but it appeared that 90% of the time i got online (even while not connecting to it manually) there was someone out there getting the ONE song i wanted....LOL)

is there a way to grab and not share (again, i wouldn't do it, as i have a CHEAPIE computer, and it really slowed things down for me..... but i'm looking to pass on some SAFETY info here....

thanks hon...now go have a Vodka/Red Bull ;)

It's bad for you to have those programs on your computer period. Ask anybody in the IT business if you don't believe me. Spyware and viruses swarm those programs looking to infect your computer, use them at your own risk.

Jon, again, i agree with you, and repeat, this is not info for me.... i already dumped it when it slowed me down to a snails pace.

after kazaa experience, i made SURE to back up everything i had to a pen drive before even THINKING of trying limewire.

they provide some great stuff, but not sure of the worth when it destroys an expensive puter!!! still think the major concern that i'm looking for here is how to avoid prosecution if too many people start downloading FROM you.

You asked and I gave an opinion, I would know way recommend you using it for illegal purposes

Best really is itunes or bittorrent, the later is a little more techie, but still find a lot of stuff out there.

I don't use any P2P, but at least we know agent uses something

Listen, I don't care if you listen to me or not. I was told by 2 different companies IT dept's that these programs are the worse to have on your computer. Also, about 2 years ago I was having a lot of major spyware problems on my computer and they were a result of having these programs on it (Limewire and Bearshare). I've heard it over and over again from many IT people. I'm sure we have some IT people in this forum, maybe they can adress the issue   ?

I use Limewire, have for about 1 year and don't have any problems.

It will run in the background if you let it. I don't allow it to run unless I purposely log on. If you let it run, anything can happen while your away.

The software is not all the bad part, most people run into troubles for the stuff they are downloading that has extra stuff in it.

I setup agent's computer to run nightly checks, and we blocked 99% of the bad stuff, as long as he is smart in what he uses it for it will not mess up his computer. Now when you run these programs it really ties up your computer connections, but most of it is how you configure these programs. Don't just take the defaults all the way through, you most of the time have to uncheck the extra stuff.

No it person in an org is going to recommend this software because like I said most people aren't smart to use these programs the right way.
