If there is, I have a question for you guys.

Recently, while stopped at a red light, my wife and I were rear ended. The other vehicle sustained what appeared to be major front end damage but still was able to flee the scene.

While waiting for the police to arrive, wife and I compared notes about other vehicle. We both agreed it was an older (early 2000's) foreign vehicle. We both agreed about 5 of the 7 numbers of his license plate (X X X ? ? X X).

The police arrived, we gave them the info we had, and the cop says nothing comes up with the plate number we gave him.

Wouldn't 5 of 7 numbers of the license plate be enough? Or did he figure that since we had insurance, screw it, collect from the insurance company, and forget about it?

On the course!
Well, is it possible the two of you are not exactly right on the numbers?

Depending on whether or not the state uses numerals only, or alpha-numeric plates......it could be thousands of possibilities for them to run, and they just aren't going to do that, I'm guessing.

if u were close, and able to give a description of the car, they should be able to find it. they have many ways of cross referencing this.
same thing happened to me along time ago. i actually gave the license plate correctly. the officer said it didnt match. my lawyer was able to find the car and driver instantly.
the officer that came to my house did not want to mess with it apparently.
i bet if this happened to the officer instead of you, it would be over by now.

This is complicated. I can't really answer unless you can divulge if the Copper is a Democrat or Republican.

I saw on the news where LA has over 7,000 rape kits waiting to be tested. (That's over 10 years worth!)

Cases are going beyond thier statute of limitations while kits sit untested in "backlog", and you think they are going to run 10,000+ random plate numbers on an everyday hit-and-run?

That would be a non issue Chad--

My question would be--is Santa Anna a sactuary city for illegals as many in CA--if so won't do you a bit of good if you do find him.

If he fled the scene chances are he's already got a record--and doubt they had insurance.

Regular Joe,

To find a car the office is using a DMV registerd plate database. The key is the plate number has to be completely added or it will not generate a hit. This is why the police have all gone with some sort of LPR or ALPR technology to do that database check with extreme certainty about the alpha/numerica data involved. This does not mean they will not be able to find them based on the vehicle description and amount of damage but the biggest problem is the lack of manpower devoted to these incidents/cases. I would think based on what you have said, no injuries and no suspect identification there little to know probability they catch this person or invest a lot of time in looking. It sucks and I am sorry for your situation.

Cheers

If you or your wife have any neck or back complaints give me a call. Sounds like big impact if the other car had a good deal of damage. Same thing happened to me a year ago. You should get checked out and have some treatment to avoid future problems with neck and back. My office is in Costa Mesa not too far from you if your in Santa Ana. But my phone# is 714-432-7777 give me a call as for Dr. David. I treat a large amount of auto accident cases and can help you out.
