What kind of a show needs this much time off in between seasons? Anyway, I love Steve Buscemi and love the Sopranos, so was pretty psyched to read this on Yahoo:

-----

"The Sopranos" returns to the premium cable channel, a unit of AOL Time Warner, for 10 more episodes starting on Sunday, March 7, and creator/executive producer David Chase said the series will pick up where it left off.

The show will introduce some new characters as a number of fictional mobsters serving lengthy prison sentences get out of jail and start hitting the streets as the "class of 2004," Chase said.

One of them is played by actor Steve Buscemi (news), who is joining the cast as Tony Soprano's maternal cousin, Tony Blundetto.

as the saying goes: "absence makes the heart grow fonder." i guess that's what the producers had in mind by delaying the new shows.

i have like buscemi since i saw him in resevoir dogs & fargo. how can anybody forget the wood-chipper scene. i have also admired buscemi for the way he reacted to the 9/11 trajedy. before acting, he was a fireman in brooklyn, ny. after 9/11, he took a leave from acting & went back to the same fire station & became a fireman again & helped with the world center cleanup. i thought that was a classy thing to do.

I think the show got delayed because James Gandolfini held out for a huge raise right before filming started so production was halted for a while, and they weren't even sure if the show was going to go on. Finally he relented and the show went on. But last season's debut was pushed back because of 9/11, so they are going on back-to-back 1.5 year offseasons.

I'm glad to see Buschemi is going to be involved with a role, because I know he's directed a few episodes in the past and they were pretty well done.

I read an article today from the press conference for the show yesterday. And one of the actors slipped up a bit and pretty much gave away that they would be knocked off...probably early in the season.

I don't know if anyone wants me posting it here or not.... wouldn't want to ruin the show for anyone. Certainly not someone I would expect to get bumped. I just kinda went "Oh wow..."

The actor in question, when asked about their involvement in the show this year, responded with something along the lines of "Well I really didn't even read many of the scripts". Oops. Filming has wrapped up now.

Maybe I should post this in a separate thread so as not to spoil it for those who don't want to know.
