Hey guys I have a quick question here. Yesterday around 9am my dog woke up and began vomiting for no reason. He probably vomited 25-30 times. Mostly just bile and foam. We spoke to the vet and they said if it continues in the afternoon to bring him in. So finally around 1:00 he went to sleep on the sofa and I thought he was ok. Then suddenly at 1:30 he woke up and vomited blood all over the sofa :scared So we called and took him to the emergency vet. All x-rays and blood work were perfect, and they kept him for most of the day and gave him Iv fluids and some stuff to keeep him from vomiting. They said it was Gastritis and GI upset  How the fuk does a perfectly healthy 3 year old dog get this all the sudden??? Anyway at 11:30 they said he could come home because he hadnt vomited since 6:00. So around 1:00 we are in bed and you guessed it..puking all over again?? So back up there we went. They said today he is fine and hasnt vomited since last night but he wont eat?? To top it off, they charged us like 600 when we picked him up, then now they want another 350 to redo all the same chit?? Fuk that Im not paying it they sent him home and he was only gone an hour. Any help as to what this is would be greatly appreciated because Im real confused. He stays in the house and I take him out on a leash so he hasnt gotten into anything?
Thanks!!

not a vet but have 3 pure bread dogs and have had dogs all my life, sounds like he could of licked a floor that had been cleaned or licked a carpt that had carpet fresh on it, also pigs easrs and raw hide bones can do this if they don't chew them great, pigs ears are bad anyway, could of been fed people food or fed to much, if it was yellow looking and foam like or bubbles best i can describe just give them some pepto bismol with a eye dropper every few hours and should be fine in a day, also go to pet store if your grass is dead and buy planted grass this helps a lot. floors should never be cleaned with anything but warm soap and water and wax or cleaner drys on the floor and dog can lick the floor and really hurt them, same with carpet and people who use carpet fresh and the worse is if you have pest control who sprays or if you do it, very hard on them if right stuff is not used. the grass and pepto does wonders but when sick like that have to go to vet don't want them to dehydrate and they are like children you have no choice but to take care of them because you never know if it is something that if you wait to long on that you might be sorry good luck.

i heard that those "swifter" disposable mop's have some gnarly chemical that attracts dogs and messes them up bad. not sure exactly the name; maybe swiffer. who knows what happened, but if an animal will eat crap and lick its own ass then its bound to have
stomach problems at some time. little pearl of wisdom there for ya! free of charge since the vet already got you.
gl hope it works out, i feel for ya.

Thanks for the reply guys..I agree, he probably licked or ate something somehow. I know what you mean Fletch they are like kids and thats why we erred on the side of caution and let them keep him overnight. Luckily we have pet insurance and it will cover 90% of it!! :D

Still nothing resolved. We picked him up last night and he hadnt vomited in 24 hours. We brought him home and within 2 hours he was vomiting again. He vomited again this morning so they offered to keep him for us and monitor some more free of charge. The vet said the only thing she has ever had like this was carbon monoxide poisoning :scared Not enough to hurt us but affect him. So we went and bought a tester and it hasnt shown anything yet?????? Anyone have any suggestions or similar stories??? This is not making any sense at all.
Thanks

boy did u get ripped off! Can't believe they charged u so much! Pet insurance is kind of like dental insurance. The vets/dentists don't make as much money as they have to follow contracts. They recoup this by ordering many needless expensive tests (crowning all of your teeth, etc.).

My dog did something similar in the past, but he finally vomited it back up. He had eaten a chunk of hard plastic off of a frisbee that he then could not digest. Maybe your dog did something similar but now when he tries to expel it, the foreign body gets stuck and cuts him up causing the bleeding. Has the vet scoped him yet?

I know 6-5 we were like what the fuk when they charged us 600. Then like I said they sent him home and he went back 2 hours later and they tried to charge me for everything again even though I already paid for the whole night and he had Iv fluid left over. Her response was basically well your insurance will cover it. Fuk that you dont know what they will cover. But really the day vet has been unreal as he is there now and she isnt even charging us. Has been there since this morning and until like 7 tonight. I dont know if he ate something or what the blood was only the one time the rest has been foam and bile :tmi: Anyway no scope yet but if not better tomorrow may have to do that.

Unfortunately, in every profession there are unethical people, and that happens. Needlessly crowning helathy teeth is malpractice and besides a few unscrupulous people it's not as prevalent as you make it sound. However, if you really feel like your dentist would do that to you, it's your right to pick up and find a new one who you can trust to do only what is necessary.

I hope your dog gets better, i know it sucks when they can't just tell you whats wrong with them and they look up at you with the scared look in their eyes when they are sick.

Saint, don't take that as a mandate against dentists. Apologies if u took it that way. I agree with your statement wholeheartedly, and actually, I didn't know this was as prevalent as it was. Actually, one of my poker playing buddies is a dentist, and he is the one who informed me and told me to be very careful when I asked him why he wouldn't take my dental insurance.

Oh no offense taken whatsoever sixfive, my statement was more just trying to let people know that their teeth are like anything else, if you don't feel comfortable w/ 1 opinion go get another. Most people just feel stuck getting the work done. But insurance cos definitely limit the quality of materials etc we will use on some procedures unfortunately.
