I took South Carolina and actually bought it up to 28. They played fairly well, left some points on the field at end of first half.

Gave up a late TD on a drive that had some Alabama backups and they must have gotten 3 3rd down conversions and then a 4th Down sneak at the goal line that was stuffed to begin with. I hate the whole Bush Push legality...just sneak it and let guys push him in...but it is what it is.

SC, down by 31, drove down and had 4th Down w the cover in the balance. Incomplete pass and I lose...not so fast my friend...they called "Targeting" on a DL that just hit the QB "too high". Nothing dirty, wasn't roughing (he hit him like 1/2 step after the ball was gone), didn't use the crown of his helmet...just wrapped the QB up and tackled all in one motion immediately after the ball was released but his facemask hit the QB's facemask.

Sorry to go into so much detail...and I'll take the win...but man oh man, I'd be PISSED if I had Alabama and lost on that shit. I want the game to be safe and even more than that, I want it to be played clean by guys who are big and strong and fast as hell, tough as hell, rough as hell, but respect the game. This whole "defenseless player" crap is terrible. I'm all for penalizing dirty, thug-like behavior. I'm all for getting the blatant spearing and dirty late hits out of the game, penalizing it, suspending when necessary.

I watched the replay and all I could think about was that some poor bastard just lost their bet literally on that being called. I'll see if I can find the replay. I know by rule its pretty clear but the eye test from a guy who played a lot of football in the 80's and 90's hates what they've done to this game.

I agree. It doesn't even out. Sorry for your loss.

And I'm not some rough and tumble "back in my day" guy. I know today's game is full of hard hits w unbelievably big and strong athletes, etc. I also can remember teams like FSU for example back in the 90's...that defense was dirty as hell....they'd rough the QB all night long and rarely called...just dirty play.

I don't want stuff like that back at all. But I do want fair play and the whole thing w Targeting is a nightmare. I've seen a Safety make a super clean hit but the WR got tripped up and so he ducked his head a little at the end. What's the safety supposed to do? But it goes for 15 yards and the guy is ejected and also misses half of the next game. Games and sometimes even seasons have changed on a routine and clean tackle. That's what I can't stand.

There is actually a way for a WR or RB to be a "defenseless player" w the ball in his hands and I'm just waiting to one day see strategy where someone avoids getting tackled and scores a crucial touchdown by intentionally making himself "defenseless" lol...I guess it goes along w our current society though. Make and/or present yourself as a victim b/c the biggest victim wins. That said, I just like equality and fair play and clean hard-hitting football where there is a lot of balance in risk/reward for run/pass and a lot of balance in advantages/disadvantages in offense/defense. I think football in the late 80's and early 90's represents a lot of what I like, even the average scores, something like maybe 28-24 give or take. My Tar Heels weren't any good but they had been good under Dick Crum and were on their way to being good w Mack Brown. And of course my Fighting Irish were all but unstoppable and of course won it all in 1988.

Sorry (not sorry) for all the ranting lol. Just watched a lot of football today and I'm pumped!! In a good way!! Still irritated over UNC/Wake game last night but almost completed a 21 point comeback and sitting at 2-1, that's not too bad.

Well said agree 100%!!!!! I believe these officials control the game more then the coaches, not the way it should be.Officials shouldn't feel like everyone is there to see them but that is how I feel it is.On the other hand they should pay these officials way more then what they get, or give them incentives for making correct calls....I am in the belief that there are too many outs with rules now.

Same thing happened in the Ky/Florida game when a Ky DL got called for targeting; the Florida QB lowered his head into the DL. What was the lineman supposed to do, bear hug the QB and gently lay him down on the ground? Florida scored a couple plays later on a 30 something yard pass where there was an obvious holding call on a Florida OL. Something has got to be done about that targeting penalty; it's just another way for the officials to screw over someone when they want to. SEC officials always 'take care' of the team they think has a chance to go farther, and therefore make the conference more money.

Let's start at the beginning. There can be no question that the intelligence that today's college player has is way below what it was 10 years ago. Many of today's players are allowed into college because they can play, and for NO other reason. They certainly do not possess the intelligence needed to pass the entrance exams in like you or I would have to do.

Next, we go the NCAA and it's total stupidity. I am glad that they are taking steps to improve the equipment that players wear to try and eliminate injuries, but the officials go totally overboard when carrying out what they perceive as rules. Worse than that, they are not held accountable for their actions. The reason why they get away with this is because the NCAA WANTS them to make these calls. This gives the NCAA an excuse for their slumping attendance. What the NCAA does NOT want you to know is that the real reason for their slumping attendance is twofold. First, the absolute total lack of competition from week to week. Second is a simple economic fact. White people make up the vast majority of fans who go to games because white people can afford to pay the ridiculous prices that the schools charge to go for a game. The more black players on a team, the less white fans will show up to support them. Now there will be people in here that think that my last statement is a racist comment. The fact of the matter is that it is a truthful comment. Call it what you want. Political correctness (which is a load of crap, as far as I am concerned) does NOT sell tickets. If anything, it is a reason for whites to watch the games on T.V, instead of in person.

So the way I see it, we have players making stupid mistakes that turn into penalties, officials who think that they have to call more penalties (real or imaginary) to keep control of the game, and the NCAA, who has totally lost control of the entire situation. Very sad. You are witnessing the demise of football, the game we once know and loved.

Dude ur just asking to ba called out. Supply the data that
shows declining attendance along with the majority of the crowd being white. I think ur judging the declining attendance off a camera shot in the late 4th quarter of a blowout between Coastal Carolina and Idaho....Michigan had a full house for the Army game and so did South Carolina for Bama...seems like since u joined all of ur posts have been either critical and/or belittling to cause turmoil...most of ur posts have been in other peoples' threads without them asking for feedback....peace in the Middle East and Im out!

I respect all the replies and I do agree w some but not all. Also, I think race is and has been a big part of the game for a long time now, in many different ways. I really don't want to say a lot in regard to it though.

I will say that I don't think race has much to do w attendance. I think most people only care about the color of the uniforms and I also think that of the people concerned about race, you'll get just as many that will make remarks like "that white boy can't play, he's too slow, etc"...but overall I think its more about them trying to be funny.

I do think that ticket prices are outrageous, esp for the crap non-conference cupcakes. I go to a few games a year but I rarely pay anywhere close to full price. Its a tradition for my family to show up to games w/o tickets and see how cheap we can get in.

I think one big reason for drop in attendance (if there is one) is how affordable huge tv's have gotten and how many games are now available. I do like the experience of tailgating and watching the game...but man, I also love (sometimes more) sitting on my ass in my living room flipping back and forth b/t several games, eating cheap food and drinking cheap beer. I think there's even a college red zone equivalent channel now.

I'm so torn b/c I love the experience but I love watching GameDay and then watching the day unfold for like 12 hours. When I go to a game, I end up seeing so little from other games.

As for the Targeting....I don't know what the answer is but it sucks to watch a guy make a clean hit and not only give up a crucial 15 yards but also to be ejected and look like a dirty player, give the other team yet another advantage and then have to sit out half of the next game. Maybe its just one more way to encourage offense...the guy is so afraid to even attempt to play defense in those situations.

Good to seeya posting plays here,TJ

This one reminded me of a similar situation of what can and does happen to "us" risking green backs on these games.

If you're aware of how the Mich. St game ended - you already know, if not, I got it written up in my thread. I came out on the short end of that referee blunder. Still doesn't rate as an "ASS BURNER" cause without the blunder would have only given St. a chance to get into overtime and cover for me. The momentum was with them and I think they would have.

Good Luck this season, Touchdown Jesus

Excellent recap & comments

Excellent recap & comments

Thanks, TJ. I had no idea how I lost. Tide was my biggest cfb play. Lost by 1.5. Had them in a 3 team par and they were the only loser --- by 1. Agree with your assessments and comments. All the best and GL this season!
