I don't have anything against Ricky Williams, he's a nice back. But what's up with ESPN blowing this guy the entire night??

Maguire Joe and Patrick sounded ridiculous talking non stops Ricky the entire game, culminating with Joe gushing "I think Coach Wannstadt wanted to KISS him" what the flock?? Ya as soon as you 3 stops blowing him:rolleyes:

for 90% of the game Williams was averaging just over 2 yards per carry, hardly something to be carrying on and on about. He was stopped 6 to 8 times for negative yards, and brought down at least 3 times by Antoine Winfield (178 pounds) on open field solo tackles.

Is the NFL & ESPN this hard up for creating super stars?? The League is now filled with parity, Michael Vick was elevated to superstar status before even playing 1 complete season. Now he is out so the NFL machine is desperately grasping for Super stars by creating them.

Like I said Ricky Williams is a nice back, he isn't a super star, he isn't Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers, or Emmitt Smith either. Time will probably show he isn't even Tomlinson or Portis. He is a nice back that fumbles Way to much, and is stopped for no yards way to much.

He is a strong bastard and in tremendous physical condition, I'll give him that for sure, just stop all the cheerleader blowing.

ur 100% correct. i think the same as for ricky think hes great. but how many carries did it take him to get 150 + yds? also bills defense was on the field for 45 minutes of this game, thats unheard of. and dolphins win by only 10? hmmmmmmmm

1 thing i forgot to mentiion was, did anyone see how bad the officiating was in this game. holy shit i seen many times the fins were holding on the bills linebackers what were the penalties? 14-4?rediculous. give props to the hc's of miami and only them. this team sucks, payback in december, btw they also have a cream puff schedule, just looked at it

mize, I also noticed the very lopsided officiating. On Miami First touchdown drive they were awarded 40 yards in penalties. 1 was defensive hands to the face, on a play where Williams clearly grabbed a Buffalo db mask and almost twisted it off. If memory serves me correctly Buffalo took 2 games from fish last season. Believe me I'm not a Buffalo fan either, but their defensive speed was minimized greatly on grass & dirt (infield). Buffalo Defense is one of the fastest I have seen this season, especially on turf.

Fish played a nice game, and Madison Marion Sertain and company always give Bledsoe fits.

You're right, Ricky might not be a Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers or a Walter Payton, but he is probably the best running back in the leauge right now.

Ricky was fed the ball 42 times last night and on every single play he took a punishment. As soon as he would hit the ground, he'd get another shot. Time after time he was getting tackled by Sam Adams, Pat Williams, and Lawyer Milloy and Takeo Spikes would give him another shot after the play. Now you might say, 'well Dave, every running back in the leauge takes a beating, what was different about last night?' The difference is that first of all, his yards went up as the game went on. This isn't a guy who had a ton of yards early, and then faded off, like Tomlinson normally does. This is a guy that literally grinded out 150 yards. Second of all, I want to see a running back who is that well conditionned that can carry the ball 42 time in a game. The fact that he only had three yards a carry, got hammered every time he touched the ball, but still had enough to hold onto the ball and run effectively down buffalo's throat when they knew he was coming shows why he is a good running back. The fact that he carried the ball 42 times isn't necessarily a showcase of his skills/ability, rather it is a display of how tough/well conditionned he is. Priest Holmes and Marshall Faulk are the only other two running backs that come close to that many touches but a lot of their touches come in the receiving game. Ricky played amazing last night, but I don't think him, or anyone else for that matter can handle 40+ carries a game weekly against a defense like Buffalo.

I don't know how anyone can say there is a better running back right now than Priest Holmes. For all that fawning over Williams, he averaged around 3 yards a carry. The Priest doesn't have games like that.

The ESPN Sunday night crew is just the absolute worst; half the time it's hard to believe that they're actually watching the game. They just pick 1-2 guys and praise every small accomplishment and conveniently don't mention anytime the guy messes up. Point in case: last week they chose Urlacher who had, at best, a mediocre game. Anytime he was at all involved in a tackle they made a huge deal out of it, even if he just came in at the end of a play to clean up. And then the plays when Kleinsasser blew him out of the way with a lead block, there was no mention of it.

That being said, I do think that Ricky's effort last night was noteworthy (not blow-worthy) simply for the fact that I think Buffalo does have a pretty decent run D and anytime you can hang 152 rush yards on a decent run D that's an accomplishment. But what I could not stand was their other blowjob; i.e. their insistence that Jay Fiedler is a "proven winner". They flashed the stat that he is 18-8 when he throws less than 200 yards in a game, and that that is the best of any active QB. They said that proved he was a good QB and a winner. How the hell does that make you a good QB? The fact that you were surrounded by a good team that was able to overcome your poor play and still win 2/3 of the time somehow makes you good? WTF?

like I said before, Ricky is a nice back, far from great. And he fumbles to much. He has already lost 2 fumbles this season. Priest Holmes lost 1 fumble all of last season. Portis also lost 1 last season. Ricky lost 7 last year & 8 in 2001:eek:

that's not even getting into negative carries, which Ricky also has problems with. Portis is averaging 7ypg this season and Holmes is averaging 5.8, and a whopping 13 + receiving.

Like I said Williams is a tough bastard and is in great condition, but he doesn't possess near the skills as several NFL backs, and his career will be much shorter.
