I remember that Herbstreit touted this idea a year or so ago. Rather than allowing biased, reactionary pollsters determine who plays in what postseason game, I'd rather see the BCS put together a selection committee similar to the NCAA basketball selection committee.
My idea for this committee would be to have the committee select the two participants in the championship game and to give the four BCS bowls a list of 4-6 at large teams to choose from for the remaining 3-4 slots.
With this idea, I think the bowls would be satisfied because they'd still have some level of choice so that they can sell tickets and grab TV viewers. I think teams and their fans would be more satisfied because then you'd have a professional, qualified committee analyzing which team is best rather than having coaches and commentators vote for teams in their spare time.
What do you all think? We all know that a playoff isn't happening (which I think is good, but that's another argument for another time), so don't you think a selection committee would be a better tool than a couple of polls and six computers?
