Does anyone else use MadJacks as their main source of news information?

I find myself looking to Dogs, Chanman, kosar, StevieD, FuzzyNuts, Nick, etc. for the news stories that are worth reading. It makes reading news on the internet easier, and you always get two viewpoints on each story. It is a very interesting way to receive news.

I guess I should start the Business news (non-financial) section because that is about all I read that is not a link from here.

This occurred to me this morning when I first clicked on MJs then the Politics/Religion forum and started reading the articles. You guys are my news anchors. Preesh!

Lt. governor blasts media, public and Schwarzenegger

MONTEREY, Calif. - Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante blasted Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, wondering aloud how the former movie star who has been accused of groping women and of using steroids can be so popular.

Bustamante's caustic comments came Friday, when he drew a warm reception from California Department of Forestry Firefighters Association members who were meeting at the Hyatt Hotel here.

"It's like we're all playing in his latest movie and the people of California are all movie extras," Knight-Ridder news service reported Bustamante as saying. "His ratings are still very good and the press just can't get enough of this guy."

Bustamante, the top elected Democrat in California, was defeated by Schwarzenegger in the 2003 recall election. He said the Republican governor escapes criticism that he allegedly used steroids as a body builder "even though many athletes are held to daily criticism."

Bustamante said Schwarzenegger won election even amid accusations he sexually harassed women.

"If any us would have been in that situation we would have been hung out to dry. We would have been 'Bobbitized,' and yet he gets away with it again," Bustamante said.

Margita Thompson, a Schwarzenegger spokeswoman, declared the comments a "nasty-gram."

"Our response is that it sounds like sour grapes from someone who is going to be a casino greeter in two years," Thompson told Knight-Ridder

Learn a lot myself brother Dawg especially from Cman.He navigates in lots of areas I miss in my morning journey threw headlines.My mornings search is always same routine USA Today- AP-Reuters-AFP-Algezeera and then Fox to get the balanced approach :)
Especially like links posted with articles ala Cman as they lead to others.
Sure wish the left slant would post more links supporting their opinion though, it sure would save time on searches-seriously.

lol- that's funny. 90% of the time when an article is posted/linked that supports 'their opinion', it's dismissed out of hand by you or Dr. Freeze because of one thing or another(ie, the author wrote a similarly 'biased' article 5 years ago). Even when it's simply a news article and not even an 'opinion' piece.

IOW, it's a losing battle since every single news outlet, except for Fox, is immediately discredited in your minds. You guys will not, and have not ever, debated or contested points made in articles posted that support a liberal position.

As i've said before, it's much easier to just wave it off as 'media bias', instead of actually rebutting it.

I personally feel that the conversations that go on here are insightful to those of us who are not biased. :moon:

I think news stories definitely need to be filtered by where they came from just like opinions written here are preluded by their past thoughts.

Personally, I dismiss anything that Fuzzy Nuts says because:
1. his history of bad posts
2. I don't agree with the angle that he is going to approach.

There are several people on the right that are skewed just as far but since I lean to the right I guess I am more tolerant.

As far as DTB goes, I know he is on the right in his beliefs (considerably further right than myself), but I don't consider him someone who is closed-minded due to it. He certainly isn't going to come on here and praise the greatness of welfare, but I also can see why.

Sure, there is some utility in considering the source, especially in strictly opinion pieces. As far as actual news outlets, well, that's more a matter of deciding what is 'fit to print', and how the headlines are framed, what stories to ignore, etc. For the most part, the actual facts presented are identical or very similar.

I've found a great reluctance or inability of the righties to take an authors article and actually contest any points that are trying to be made. They take the lazy way out and simply say, 'well, of course, that's XYZ and they should be ignored due to bias.' Almost without exception.

I don't think you can compare idiots like Fuzzy Nuts or Manson to Maureen Dowd or Thomas Sowell. Of course we disregard the nutcakes on the forum, and use a filter in that way, but that's a little different.

Speaking of Dowd, and kind of on point, she did nothing but absolutely slam Clinton for his whole term. Then she bashes Bush for all of his many failings and the people here immediately say, 'well, of course, she's biased.' No comment on why she's wrong, just dismissed out of hand as biased.

That's why I found it humorous when DTB called for more liberal articles to be posted.

DTB's my man, and no, he's not close-minded. As a centrist, I appreciate any and all viewpoints.

I don't watch tv period.

IMO, calling it the "Idiot Box" is an understatement. I don't find much from it informative OR entertaining. Every now and then catch some tv at someone's house and see all that I'm missing. NOT lol

I get almost all off my news etc off the radio. Listen to NPR and various talk radio shows of all leans. Catch my sports when needed at the girlfriends or a local establishment.

If a topic arises that I need more info on, then I look to MJ's for any additional takes or info. Or I take a look to find Chan's posts on whatever topic floats his boat. Always good stuff.

I think this forum is the best thing Jack did in my short time here. Kind of like an island "that time forgot". The regulars here rarely wander off and the status quo makes one comfortable stepping in when compelled. Foreign nationals should be concerned about finding a forum dedicated to what's going on in their backyard, instead of expressing opinions on ours.

Good rule of thumb for me...
instantly dismiss the opinions of those posting in caps :flush:

Casey Kasem used to say that when he finished up his weekly top 40 on the radio. Not sure what it means exactly.

Happy New Year to you as well. Hopefully 2005 is much better than your 2004.

Yes, Scotty's been a pleasure to deal with lately and I appreciate our friendship. He's come a long ways from the days of him calling me a 'dipstick.' He's a patriot and a damn good American.
