Go ahead...

Go ahead...

Go ahead and try the deer! It's pretty good. Cooking them on the grill like a pork chop will make them a little tough. My personal favorite is to cut the chops into cubes, flower them, and fry 'em up. UMMMM good! Deer sausage is another favorite.

Let us know...

I first tried venison a while back at a nice Italian restaurant. It was extremely good with a nice red wine. It has a nice taste---hardly gamey at all. As far as cooking it at home, can't help you there but sounds like you can find a better recipe than an Italian dressing marinade. Try http://www.foodtv.com and if you still don't want them, send those bad boys my way!

Bon appetit,
M

Venison is quite good. It will cook differently than the beef u are used to as the fat contest is substantially less. Try to keep from overcooking and drying it out.

Just cube the meat. Lay out a strip of bacon with lawrys, garlic salt, and mrs. dash onion flavor. put meat cube on bacon strip roll up and but on shis ka bob. grill and eat whole, a little bit of work, but the best way to eat venison!!

i don't like it, and don't eat it, so don't hunt it, but as long as people are gonna eat the damn things, i say kill em. they are a road hazzard where i live and every single person i know that lives in this county has hit one or more at one time or other in their lives. they're all over the place and something has to be done to cut down on the population here. they still only allow 1 or 2 a season for a hunter  i say let them kill as many as they want.

yeah, Jack, the antihunters would rather them overpopulate and starve. This is how I like to take them. Andy Rooney talked about how barbaric it was this weekend too :p

deer jerky,........ find the right recipe and it is great. Love to hunt them also. Quite a challenge if you havenever done it. Deer have all day to watch you and let you make the mistake then in the wink of an eye they are gone, flashing that big white-tail at you. A very beautiful animal for sure, but think about it in most areas they only have one natural enemy, YOUR CAR.

If you have ever seen a deer woods in late winter that is over populated it is not a pretty sight. Better to harvest and feed the homeless in my opinion than to let the deer starve to death or get diseased from weakness.

I make mine into italian sausage. It makes the best lasagna and spaghetti you have ever had and you would never know it was venison.

In Missouri, if you fill every tag that you can legally get, you can take 10 deer every year. That ought to tell you how many deer there are around here. They are most plentiful in the KC and St. Louis areas where they don't get any hunting pressure.

I took a nice 11 pointer this year and am having it made into summer sausage, jerky and snack sticks. Don't knock it till you have tried it.

Joebell, I am going to try your recipe. That sounds pretty good.

Have always loved venison, but it is hard to come by in Southern Calif. Last time I had it was at Granny's in Laughlin. As most have mentioned, have to be careful not to let it get too dry - make sure you marinate if possible. Good stuff.
