10K for a honeymoon! shit dude! will you marry me instead?

LMFAO!! :D

I was thinking the same thing. That sure is a lot of money to spend on a honeymoon!!

I had a modest but nice honeymoon I thought. We went to Gulf Shores, Alabama. It might be more commercialized now, but at that time, the beaches were beautiful, the traffic was light, and we could drive there in less than 9 hours. We had a great time and certainly didn't have to bend over when the bill came.

Might I suggest that instead of spending a fortune on a honeymoon, plan to take another nice vacation in about 6 months in addition to the honeymoon. U know that saying about "the honeymoon being over"?

Marriage is a great thing, and I wish u soon to be newlyweds the best!

UT--I just called a travel agent for the hell of it to see if they could get a better deal. The trip that I am looking at went from just under $6,000 to right at $5,000. They were also able to give us a flight back to Atlanta even though we're flying out of Nashville. Orbitz and other on-line places were going to charge a pretty high fee for that service. By talking to the travel agent, I am looking at saving over $800.

AR--Sandals at St Lucia (there are three resorts within 40 minutes of each other and transportation is included) has 14 different restaurants to choose from. I think that would be enough for a 6 day trip. I had the same reservations about these places until recently.

dawgball - Travel agents are trying to bend over backwards these days to give you the best deal possible. Over the last two to three years business for them has declined with more people have access to the Internet. I took a trip to the Bahmas and between Orbitz, a local agent and calling the resort, OurLucaya, it was the cheapest to just call myself.

FWIW - I've had many people tell me that Sandals St. Lucia is the way to go... Not as expensive as Hawaii and not the "tourist trap" as other places in the Caribbean. Another "hidden gem" is the Dominican Republic. The resorts near Puerta Plata, which is where the airport is located, are amamzing. I've been there twice in the last three years on medical missions but never got to stay in the Northern point of the country. A beautiful place to stay and look into as well as the friendliest people in Central America...

UT,
Just did the honeymoon thing this past June. We went to Sandals in the Bahamas. Any of the Sandals resorts are going to be very nice. ;) You just need to decide which Caribean island you want to go to. Decisions, decisions! Keep in mind that if you choose a resort in the southern Caribean, you will loose an entire day in the air, both going and coming. (That is why we chose the Bahamas) Damn near everything is included in the Price. We only spent $5500 including airfare. You can get prices above and below that. It really depends on how nice of a room you want.

Check out the Sandals web site. It will probably answer a lot of your questions.

Advice - I've been to Jamaica and they have some of the nicest all-inclusives in the world. But, if you leave the resort and go into town, watch out. The ppl there are very pushy and it is downright dangerous in town at night. If you feel the need to leave the resort, I recommend Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios. If you go, go with other ppl. It is like paradise. I think there are two Sandals resorts in Jamaica. (You can hop from one Sandals to the next for free if you want.) The Bahamas are similar to Jamaica, but the ppl aren't nearly as pushy. You will find pushy ppl if you go into some of the markets, but it's nothing like Jamaica. We visited Atlantis on Pardise Island while we were there. (The all-inclusive resorts are better)

Good luck with your tough decision!

UT--

2 of the best places I have been:

(1) Grand Lido Resort Negril - an all inclusive with a beach and a clothing optional beach (your choice). Large, spread out and nice. Went this past summer (August) and had a blast....

(2) Caneel Bay, St. John, USVI - also an all inclusive and very secluded. This is a rock resort and you can get a package to stay at Caneel Bay 1/2 the week and at Little Dix Bay (British VI) the other half - if you want to. Can catch the local ferry back to St. Thomas for shopping, etc. Nice and secluded with little interference.

I've been married for 17 years (best 3 years of my life) and both of us enjoyed each of these places.... Good luck to you! :D

A sailor on his honeymoon writes to his superior officer."It's nice out here;can I have an extra week?"Officer replies,"It's nice anywhere;get the hell back to the ship."

UT--I have been researching the same thing lately. After speaking to several people and knowing that I do not want to be responsible for a damn thing for that week, I am leaning towards an all-inclusive resort. The one that has caught my eye the most is in St. Lucia. I was always very skeptical of all-inclusives until I talked to several friends and other people and heard their experiences.

Does anyone have personal stories from all-inclusives. If you have doubts but have never been to one, you are in the same boat as me--but I would like to hear real stories and feedback if anyone has any.

Thanks!

went to sandals st lucia back in march(the golf resort and spa)
stay on the cliff if you go there. it is so much more private and the views are spectacular. dont go there if you are wanting to vedge out on the beaches. they are very small and the waves crash right at the shoreline. all the food is great(you cant have to high of expectations for an all inclusive) with the exception of the steak. the fish is mahi mahi or dorado.

very beautiful island and if you do stay on the cliffs you can get room service anytime of the day or night.

i have a bunch of info if there is anything i can help you with. gl

antigua, imho has the best beaches.

Bermuda or St. Martin. I personally do not like the pre-packaged meal plans etc. I'd rather look for the non-touristy places. Then again, you can always take your soon-to-be-wife to a place no woman has ever been before..........................................................Fat's one-bedroom trailor in suburban Ft. Worth.
