I got this from another site, but the rumor making the rounds is that Michigan State may have multiple players suspended this weekend for a large fight last night involving some members of the football team and the MSU hockey team. I know nothing about the source but was wondering if anyone else heard this?

EAST LANSING - MSU football coach Mark Dantonio on Tuesday acknowledged an off-campus fight over the weekend that involved some football players, calling it "disappointing."

"I guess my only statement will be that we're cooperating with authorities and we're letting them handle that end of things," Dantonio said. "Our focus will be on Michigan, as it needs to be."

East Lansing Police are still investigating the incident and have not yet filed charges.

The Spartans (6-2 overall, 3-1 Big Ten) are 5-1/2-point favorites to beat the Wolverines (2-5, 1-2) on Saturday in Ann Arbor, which would be MSU's first win there since 1990.

Dantonio spent much of his time Tuesday addressing all the recent trash talk between the rivals, including his own emotional comments two days after U-M's 28-24 comeback win at Spartan Stadium.

"No I do not regret talking like that," he said, "and you know, Big Brother's watching, so I don't know."

Word around town is that one football player and one hockey player got in a fight, it was broken up and then escalated when one of them returned with some buddies. One of them suffered a broken jaw (not sure who yet). It doesn't appear any suspensions, if any at all will take place this week.

Just updated:

News 10 has learned new information about Saturday's fight involving MSU football and hockey players. East Lansing police tell wilx.com between 15 and 20 athletes were involved, eight of them freshmen football players. Police are not releasing any of their names yet. Investigators say felony charges are likely to be issued. Several people got broken bones during the fight, and hockey player AJ Sturges was hospitalized. He was released from Sparrow Hospital Tuesday but won't play for several weeks while recovering from a head injury. Police say the fight started because of a combination of a girl, alcohol and a tough loss to Ohio State. Stay with News 10 and wilx.com for more details as they become available.

A fight involving MSU athletes at a Center Street house sent one MSU athlete to the hospital Sunday morning.

East Lansing police Lt. Kevin Daley said ?three, possibly four victims? suffered injuries during a fight involving ?multiple? suspects at about 1 a.m. Sunday at a house on the 100 block of Center Street. Some of the suspects involved are members of the MSU athletics program, Daley said.

?We?re still trying to determine who got assaulted and who did the assaulting,? Daley said.

Daley said one unidentified individual left a house party at the residence and later returned with several other suspects, instigating multiple fights throughout the house.

One victim was sent to Lansing?s Sparrow Hospital with undisclosed injuries and remained hospitalized Monday evening, Daley said. WLNS TV-6 reported that the individual hospitalized was sophomore A.J. Sturges, a defenseman for the MSU hockey team. A hospital spokesperson said Monday evening that Sturges was in fair condition.

Sturges? father, John, declined to comment on the reported incident when contacted Monday night.
Daley said police are in the process of interviewing witnesses and victims who might have been injured at the scene but left without receiving treatment.

Charges stemming from the fight have not been filed and would not be filed until the end of the week or early next week, Daley said.

MSU athletics officials released a statement Monday, saying, ?We are aware of an off-campus incident that occurred early Sunday morning. The MSU Athletics Department is cooperating fully with East Lansing Police in its open investigation.?

MSU Associate Athletics Director for Communications John Lewandowski said it was too early to comment additionally on the incident because the investigation is still ongoing.

Doesn't sound very hard to figure out.

I hear that there will be suspensions after the UM game (shocker) but that they are not key contributors.
