I was involved with a group of players a while back that tried to cash in on those monster pick-6 carryovers and now Magna is offering a guaranteed $500,000 pick 5 every Saturday starting on the 31st of January, this one will be 5 races on 5 different tracks starting with the 9th at Laurel. I am pretty interested in this as they will carryover 75% each week that it is not won, the remaining 25% is paid out to the 4 of 5 ticket holders. I have never hit a pick-6, like many I have a very painful near miss, but never cashed a giant sized one, so I am due.

If you have never been in a pool like this basically 4-5 people get together and chip in a pre-determined amount and we take a shot at the big prize with that money as pick-6 tickets (in this case pick-5) can get pretty expensive, was on one that cost over $1100 one time (yep, out after the first race). Lots of ground rules have to be setup and there is the element of trust if your doing this on-line, but I was thinking of taking a shot at this thing, if anyone is interested let me know.

So Cal
When the Pick 6 first started in So Cal, I was in with a few other guys and over the course of the first 2 years hit for $102,000; $96,000 and $52,000 plus a ton of smaller ones and consolations. We played between $2,000 and $4,000 per day. As unlikely as it seems, we weren't ahead much at all. We finally saw that there were a couple of groups that would put in tickets of as much as $20,000 on the carry over days. It is extremely hard to compete with groups like that.

No doubt it is hard to compete with the weight some of those groups throw around. I am probably getting ahead of myself right now anyway, should wait and see how this new pick-5 thing plays out and how often there is a carryover. I am real selective when it comes to playing a wager like this anyway, need to find at least 2 races that have horses with higher ML and of course a race that you can single someone other than the chalk. Will keep everyone posted.

You definitely have the right idea. I can say one thing, it is a lot of fun. Maybe at the beginning of the pick 5, the big players will sit out until they get a handle on it. That is the way it was with the pick 6.

Im definetely interested. Maybe 5 of us can put up 100 dollars each and try and hit it. That would be around a 500 dollar ticket for the Pick 5. But Ferdville is right some of these groups plunk down 20K on these Pick 6's and its hard to beat them.

I dont know that sportsbooks will take Pick 5 or 6. TVG online i think might be the only one that takes track odds on every bet. Need to check on that.

We could WU whoever is making the Pick 5 100 dollars every friday and one of us can make the wager. Im 30 minutes from the track here in Louisiana so making the bet would not be a problem for me. Kick it around and lets come up with something.

I have 2 U.S. based places on-line that take that type of wager, money goes into the track pool and you get final track payouts on any and all bets, also this new pick-5 is only on Saturday and I am usually at OTB then anyway. Like I said, alot of ground rules need to be in place and I want to see how this is playing out before risking mine and someone elses cash, but I am definatly gonna look into it hard.

couldn't have said it better myself. i'm a runner at an otb and the owner of the otb and his group bet like $80,000 in that aqueduct pk6 last week and had 1 of 2 tickets that hit it. It's kind of funny because the public section of the otb bet like $1000 to $2000 and i kind of laugh because here i am in the office punching $80,000 worth of tickets and knowing our customers really don't stand a chance. but you really never know i guess.

It's been my experience that when a new exotic comes out, it usually pays off a lot better than one would expect. We saw that in the early 90s with Pic 3 wagering, and we've seen it in the past 2-3 years with Pic 4 wagering.

There were several winning tickets at just over 13 grand each. Personally I hit a snag playing this wager, none of the on-line places I use can take the bet because of the Magna restrictions (rediculous) so I can only play on Saturdays that I am actually going to the OTB, I will let you know in advance which days these will be and we'll work something out.

UPDATE

UPDATE

Again I did not play yesterday, but it was hit by several $2 tickets for $8800+ Starting to be glad I have not got in this one yet, really expected there to be a decent carryover and yet it is being hit several times on both days so far.
