Anyone Paying Attention to the Lines?

Syracuse up to +110 ML at Caesars. Anyone know why? Surely Jo Pub cannot be that crazy, can he/she? There has to be a reason why, and running up the score against a lowly FCS opponent is not that reason.

It is not the public. It is a value play for many players and why it initially stood out to me. You have two even teams in terms of talent in my opinion with the road team initially laying 3. Lots of players love that home dog situation and jumped on the line right away. Maryland is an often misunderstood team given all the controversy last year, but they have a lot of talent on their team and have some very strong graduate transfers added to key positions (QB and 2 outside/rushing linebacker positions). I think this line will settle in around even as Cuse money is waiting to see where it tops out. I should have a full write up on this one later in the week once I have a chance to look at Syracuse.

This game was moved to ESPN at noon so a good showcase for both programs.

LSU and Hawaii lines are also on the rise!

Very interesting take on a team that is allegedly the 2nd best in the ACC against a team that will do well to finish .500 in the Big 10 East. Maryland does not win a game in November. Add on losses to Penn State and at Purdue, and Maryland is, at best, a .500 team. They also have next to no experience on either side of the ball. Syracuse has a lot more players returning, a better HC and overall coaching staff and a dream of being a competitive team. A loss to Maryland ends the competitive dream. I know that they get Clemson next week, but Syracuse also knows that a loss to Maryland all but eliminates them from any Major Bowl game no matter what they do against Clemson next week.

why would a loss to Maryland eliminate Cuse from a major bowl game? I would posit that a loss to the Terps would be meaningless in the grand scheme of things, and if Cuse ran the table from there not only would they be in a major bowl but they might even be in the playoff

not arguing one side or another but a loss to the Terps would not eliminate the Orange from the ACC/national picture

If Syracuse was in the same division as Maryland they would finish in 5th place in the division let alone the conference and have a .500 record. Take at look at both teams schedules. Maryland has a top ten toughest schedule in the country while Syracuse's is not even in the top 50. The ACC Atlantic is weak compared to the Big Ten East. Sure, Syracuse will likely finish with a better record but that alone does not make them the better team. I am confident of one thing after going through the teams capping the game, Maryland has just as much overall talent on both sides of the ball as Syracuse. Each is better in some areas than the others but this should be a very competitive game.

you are going to make that assumption after one game : syr has played liberty and MD has played HOWARD. how much do we really know about syr and MD ? what do they say about 1rst game to second game improvement ?
