I've been seeing a ton of posts at multiple forums on the net about this - and can't count the number swearing off the NFL - and how they are done betting on football etc. Look - the big thing is if a person is swearing off betting on football because of a "fix" - they have bigger issues than the "fixes" themselves. If people are losing week in and week out - it's on themselves. I've beat the spread for years - and yes I've benefited from games (see Stanford yesterday, Chargers today) - and I've lost a handful of "shady" games. Don't get me wrong - as I said before the TD should have counted. The thing is I just think it's funny how people come out of the woodwork when a shady game happens, and think that's why they have lost or are losing long run. The biggest thing I've told people who are losing is then they have a gift - simply fade yourself. If you can only pick 44% winners - then fade yourself and pick 56% winners, and grind out small profits.
By the way there is one article on sportsillustrated/cnn right now where the ref was quoted in it. The ref said "yes we should have let the play go through" - meaning the TD. Only article I've found about it - article closed with something about how the call affected the spread since the Steelers were 5 point favorites.
Obviously I'm always a fan of getting the calls right. I think Pitt should have covered that game, and if they were to change the result now or tomorrow or whatever (don't think they can or have ever done this, but first time for everything right) I'd be fine w/ taking a loss.
I've been on the right side of 2 last second scores tha last 2 days. Somewhere down the line, maybe next week, maybe next year, I'll have 2 plays like this go against me.
The thing is if people think you can't win at sports betting - because of worrying about fixes - then you just shouldn't be betting. I'm sure things go on behind close doors and I do think a game can be influenced by refs. But the fact remains, if you don't know about what side the "fix is in" - you'll most likely win 50% and lose 50% of those.
All i know is if fixes are going on on a regular basis, then why have I been able to beat the game long run? I have concluded it's because most games aren't involved in questionable endings. I win enough games because I find the right side over time.
It is unfortunate that something like today's Pitt game had to happen - I mean the thing is they took time to review, but seemed to rush the final verdict. But if you think of the long run picture - you don't see many games ending like this. Just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to theirs.
GL as always.
