dictionary defines it something like "short pithy sayings," if whatchamacallit serves.

Don't ask me what a "pithy" is...think it's some kind of snake, or something.

Anybody got any favorites?

I like the controversy between these two:

two wrongs don't make a right

and

an eye for an eye

Perhaps wisdom is in the eye of the beholder.

P.S.
Don't cite any any of Nietzsche's.
Tough enough for me to understand in the original Japanese.

P.S.S.
Don't start singing Too Much Time on My Hands because I can't stand Styx.

this would qualify:

opinions are like assholes;
everybody has one

They are a dime-a-dozen, I suppose.
Just wondering if somebody has any belishnikov's that they live by.

One takes an obscure and inexplicable thing more seriously than a clear and explicable one.... A matter that becomes clear ceases to concern us.

Story of my life.
Why I think that school gets so boring and why I believe that ambiguity is underrated, among other anons.

Yes...it's Nietzsche...I promised nothing.

C'mon aphorism thread! We can beat the "pooping in stores" thread. Well maybe not. Maybe Hippo can post up some Bukowski. I like me some American Romanticists, like Ralph Waldo:

Every spirit makes its house, but afterwards the house confines the spirit.

-- The Conduct of Life (Fate)

Every man is a divinity in disguise, a god playing the fool.

some good stuff
wisdom does not require the long, drawn-out B.S. of Continental philobscurity

sorta gambling related here:
As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain, and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.
--Einstein

Better yet, after talking to someone who has been married for 45'ish years (for longer than I care to reliven):

ignorance is bliss

That one is classic.
I could Carry On but a Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young song beckons me.

peace maybe
