what the fck is up with the line on this one. But does this movie look remotely interesting to anyone. Is there anyone here who wants to see this? or more importantly will be running out on opening weekend to see it? A bunch of native mayans running around and killing each other. I'm sure I'm underestimating the dumbing of America, but you couldn't pay me to watch this. Mel Gibson is the medias bitch right now, so you have to figure the jewish population isn't running out to see this. not a chance. and I can't think of one market demographic that this movie would possibly appeal to. The movie is subtitled which is another strike. It's supposed to be really violent which is another strike to sensitive parents. They are marketing it as a Mayan adventure which hasn't been done. I can't remember thinking to myself that i would love to see a great Mayan movie.....i sure hope they make one soon.

Fck Mel and this stupid movie. Its a pretty big dog, and maybe i'm the sucker, but I don't know how this movie will do 13 million this weekend. I'd be surprised if it did 10. But again, the line is beggin for under money so I'm probably a sucker, but man does this movie look like it will blow. I don't care how many screens you put it on. There are no stars in the movie either and certainly no tits. This movie sucks and I don't need to see it.

Apocalypto under 13 million +205 (max bet only $350)

The movie will crank IMO.

From what I understand, it's all action. There is only a little dialogue (which is subtitled) to distract you from what is going on.

I didn't know the Jewish population of this country was so large.

It's also the holiday season with lots of snow excetera in many parts of the country. People will go to the show regardless of what's on the screen.

line already moved to +187. i move movie lines dilbert.

i should edit my post to under 12,999,980 since i forgot to factor IO going to see this gem.

jewish population is 3.1 million and about 1.3 % of the us population. not ridiculously high, but you can count them out of seeing this movie. it is higher than the eckankar religion which has 26,000members and equates to 0.001 percent of the population. my eckankar source says they are still undecided on their stance on the movie.

people do go to movies, but its also opening against a dicaprio movie, a cameron diaz and kate winslet movie, and a holiday kids movie. happy feet is still a kids movie in theaters and people are still going to see bond.

i said that i was on a cold side on this bet, but i still like it. now i just have to like it $20 less because you and your loved one are going to see it.

doubt the Jewish population figures much into opening weekend numbers since I doubt they attend movies on the Sabbath.

That said, it looks like a great movie to me and I like Gibson and his movies. Also, I think Tom Cruise is one of the most offensive biggest idiots on the planet, but I still watch his movies.

I won't be attending or betting on this, so hope you hit it.

Just an opinion of what I saw at the show late Tuesday night in the freezing weather.

I guess we'll know soon enough.

GL on your action

Not sure of how much it will make, but I'm going.

Gibson might be an a-hole, but he is a good director. I'm sure this movie will be good.

i have no desire to see that movie either. i wouldn't go if there was free beer and a seafood buffet. won't rent it when it comes out or watch it on HBO either.

of course that doesn't mean it will go under. i wouldn't stand in line for one of those xbox nintendo thngs either and you know what a big hit those things are.

Bloody 'Apocalypto' Draws Good Reviews
By BOB TOURTELLOTTE, Reuters

LOS ANGELES (Dec. 1) - Mel Gibson 's new movie "Apocalypto" drew several good early reviews on Friday from critics who cautioned the thriller set against the end of an ancient Mayan civilization is also extremely violent.

"Blood-and-guts action audiences should eat this up," said show business newspaper Daily Variety.

"Despite the subject's inherent spectacle, conflict and societal interest, Central America's pre-Columbian history has scarcely been touched by filmmakers," writes Variety critic Todd McCarthy, who also called the film "remarkable."

Another veteran critic, Maxim magazine's Pete Hammond, said he was "blown away by the filmmaking."

"Say what you will about Mel Gibson , but the guy knows how to get the goods up on the screen," Hammond told Reuters. "It's a chase movie; it's an action movie ... it's extremely violent."

"Apocalypto" is being closely followed because of Gibson's arrest this summer on drunken driving charges in Malibu, California, outside Los Angeles, and because of his subsequent anti-Semitic tirade against a police officer.

Gibson, 50, later apologized, and industry watchers are curious to see whether his legions of fans and the general public have forgiven him and will turn out for the movie's December 8 debut in the United States.

"I don't think it's going to matter with the core audience. At it's heart, this is a pure action movie," Hammond said.

The movie is being hyped by its distributor The Walt Disney Co. as a "mythic action-adventure set against turbulent end times of the once-great Mayan civilization."

The main character is Jaguar Paw, a hunter whose idyllic jungle life ends when Mayan warriors attack his village. They burn huts, rape women and take the men to be human sacrifices in a Mayan city that is beset by drought and crop failure.

What ensues is a bloody battle between the Mayan captors and Jaguar Paw as he seeks to escape their clutches and return home to his burned village, pregnant wife and their young son.

The movie is subtitled in English, with the characters speaking in an ancient version of a language called Yucatec.

Gibson has a long history of making violent movies that, in the end, have paid off. His 1995 epic, "Braveheart," another historical thriller, featured many bloody battles and won five Oscars including best picture and best director for Gibson.

More recently, "The Passion of the Christ" raked in $612 million in global box office with a tale of the final hours in the life of Jesus Christ, and it was criticized by some for being too violent in its depictions of Christ's suffering.

i capped this movie at 12m. vegas set the number at under 13m +205. that is off by 3.5 m at even money, which makes this an over play by BB's numbers.

sorry, BDB, but i got over 13M on this one.

if mel gibson gets pulled over tonight, all bets are off.

good luck to you.

Guess I'm in the minority here. No biggie as I'll see as a #2 in a double feature, so it won't cost me a dime if it isn't any good, and it won't hurt your UNDER play.

Fair enough. I will wait to see it until I return to the great state of Minnesota for winter break.

If this wager comes down to the final $20, though... I want to see some gratuity! :thumb:
