Aquarium help

[TIME TO MAKE $$$]

I have been doing some research on Seawater Aquarium's, and I was wondering if anyone here has one or any experience with it. I know that A) its costs more than a fresh water setup B) higher maintenance than a fresh water unit

ANy thoughts or suggestions like what type of seaweed should I be looking at? I am sure the store reps will help me out but would like to hear from anyone on here before I head out Friday to go fishing...

you don't put seaweed in your tank you damn Canadian!

i had a 75 gallon saltwater tank going good for about 2-3 years until i made the mistake of feeding my aggressive fish some "live fish" that had already croaked which contaminated the water, causing every fish to die in less than an hour except for the snowflake eel. that was a sad day for me. i had spent so much time and money building it up and it all ended so abruptly <tear drops my eye>.

anyway ant dog, get you a good pump for your system...to me that was key because it does so much of the cleaning you would otherwise do by hand. when you put in the water and the salt, run it without any fish for about a week. you WILL have fish die at first so don't get discouraged by that...it's a trial and error process. just remember that not every fish will adapt to your specific environment. keep up on the PH levels and the temperature. choose wether you want community fish or aggressive fish and not both because you'll find out the hard way when you come home from work only to find that one of your trigger fish made a meal out of your yellow tangs. i can't begin to tell you how much money i fuhked off by mixing the wrong fish.

Ant what the hell do you want an aquarium for? It isn't like your eel will be waiting at the door for you to come home. It can't cut grass or cook. IF you are looking to throw some money down on something of no real intrinsic value.....or something that really serves no purpose try buying your favorite girl a book. That will collect equal amounts of dust and it doen't need a reef.

What's wrong with fresh water? I had a 50 gal tank that was really nice and was much easier to operate. There are a lot of nice fish that look very tropical and are a lot less money. One word of advice though. don't let your kids pour a can of Italian Bread Crumbs in the tank to feed the fish. They go belly up pretty quick

You need to begin by introducing 8 or 9 Damselfish to the aquarium when you first set it up. Some will die but these are the hardiest and least expensive to use while the nitrite level peaks then begins to decline again. Run your tank AT LEAST a month before putting the more expensive fish in. A week won't do it, your fish will die soon after due to nitrite poisoning if you introduce them too quickly. Be prepared to devote alot of time and expense, but if you are really into it, you can build a beautiful salt water setup.

Speaking of Triggers, I bought a Picasso Trigger once and the damned thing tore through a double-wrapped plastic bag AND the paper bag around it. I had a 1 hour ride home with my 12 year old daughter attempting to plug the holes that he kept poking in it......aww such fond memories
