jmize,

LOL, Lakers still didn't cover. . . I assume maybe you played the ML, but I gladly took the points. Still, at least we have a good idea of what to expect on Sunday. . . if the game is close as it should be, the Kings should have an advantage with the refs.

Guess I should add that I did have a small amount on the ML parlay of the Nets/Kings, but still came out a winner by taking the points with the Kings. In the end, you were correct and I suppose that I'll look forward to basketball on Sunday, but would have been nice to have cashed in that parlay instead!

NICKELBACK, i already had the kings in a 2 teamer from weds nite w/nets win! +6 my point was easy! if nets win play la in a ml or hook them up in a ml parlay! no i wouldnt bet the ml big on them-why would i i already had a 2 teamer going and needed sac +6

once nj won i knew la would win tonite-hands down! sure it was close

now if nj lost tonite i would have bet the kings plus and the ml!

just had a real good feeling that la was the one that would win tonite so there would be a big showdown on sunday!

the point is would the networks want nj/bos or sac/la on sunday! very easy!

gl on sunday think sac is the right choice

If $$$ was the only thing at issue here, can you explain why the refs didnt let Boston win also.......If they make all of this money on a gm 7 on a sunday wouldnt they make double if there were 2 game sevens.......also if the networks could control everything then why not LA vs Boston in the final........this would bring in a lot more $$ and interest than any other matchup.

Ok, this in an interesting topic so I have a few questions:

1. Maverick brings up a good point that if NBC has any push on these games, than we would be getting ready for two game 7's instead of just one as it would have been an incredible day for the NBA (similar to the Final Four in college basketball)

2. Why the Nets if they were "chosen" to be the team to get out of the East? I would think the Celtics would get more money and attention and they would be "chosen" to win.

I just think its interesting that if the finals could be "planned" then certainly Boston would be facing the Lakers as NBC would absolutely clean up no matter how many games it would take the Lakers to knock them out!

Also jmize, if this source of yours that told you the Nets would get in also told you that the Kings would win game 7, then I suppose I should take out a loan and load up :D

Funny........why didnt you let us in on this little secret after the Nets blew their 26 pt lead in gm 3. They also were tied late in gm 4 and pulled out the win but a loss and they could have been looking at the wrong end of a 3-1 series.

do you really think the players decide these games all the time!

Anyone who has ever wagered knows that players dont always decide gms....sometimes its refs, umps, bad bounces etc.etc lots of circumstances.

understand your guy's point very well! but like i said--if you readf all my posts from weds and friday it seems like i already knew what would happen;)
god luck to both of you on sunday,as for me i'm backing the kings all the way on sunday. if they lose -the y lose, but my posts on wednesday said" lakers are done"

think about it this way who do you think the public will be on sun day?

win or lose -i cleaned up these last 2 days! i could bet this game very small.

and still believe if nets lost on friday -then sascramento would have finished off the lakers

To say New Jersey was "Chosen" to be in the Finals is the biggest crock I've heard in quite some time! I don't know about anybody else, but according to the my eyesight and the TV I was watching during that series, those two teams aren't even really that close!!! Out of 6 games, Boston played ONE really good game and of course had one hellaciously LUCKY quarter! Don't give me this BS about the Nets being "chosen!" I don't care about either of those teams, but get real. Give the CLEARLY BETTER TEAM their due and move on already!!

I just happen to be one of the people who believe you. Last night was a made for TV game. It didn't require the Lakers had to pull the spread but I thought they would. Nice calls

I'm a big Lakers fan since 1974.I didn't like the number of fouls called on them in Sac. the last game and I see the same thing happening again on Sunday:( Watch closely at those calls. It's going to be tough to beat the Kings, the fans and the refs. all at the same time tomorrow.
From a betting standpoint,I may be playing the Kings. This way if they win I cash, looking at the other way,I could lose the bet which means the Lakers would be goin to the championship series. It's a can't lose for me.
GOOD LUCK LAKERS

FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU GSP! when i first posted this thread i was surprised than some of the top nba cappers in this forum didnt feel the same way!

i have been aroundf this for a very long time now and have seen everything! and these 2 series couldnt have been scripted any better

MAVERICK, you are right about the money part and why wouldnt the nba want both games go to game 7!

1st of all the obvious, would be easy to think that way , but on the betting end vegas would lose there shirts, now when you have 1 series go to sunday then its a pick and chose thing!

AS FOR NIGHT OWL, sure the nets are better and deserve to go!

my problem is maybe there are alot of young cappers on this board that havent bet the nba too long! or in fact any sport too long, i've seen this scenari on what happened too many times

and i'm sure gsp or anyone else out there knows exactly what i'm talking about!

GLL TO ALL ON SUNDAY

NOLAN RESPONDS: I have not siad, nor have I written that the NBA/NBC are involved in a conspiracy to advance the LA Lakers (or any other team) to the playoffs. However, I am convinced the NBA is trying to push yp the scoring on these games and do everythign in their power to kill defense. Rules are now designed to punish defenders for making eye contact. Forget about the contant traveling that goes on every time there is a breakaway and slam dunk, that will never be called.

As one who has Los Angeles to win the series, I was glad to see them win last night. However, as an observer I was HORRIFIED by what I saw. FREAKIN' HORRIFIED. It was the Cleveland Browns game all over again. Bumble-headed referees thinking they are the stars of the show who want to control every facet of the game. What was REALLY problematic was the fact that the officiating was so intrusive SO AS TO DETERMINE THE OUTCOME OF THE GAME. If all NBA games were called this way (fouls), there would be no one left in the stands. Either that, or there would be riots. The offciating was just atrocious!

So, lest my point get lost, I do not believe in a network conspiracy, but I ma convinced there is an effort to generate more offense and more scoring by sacrficing solid defense, and thus the integrity and balance of the game is irreparably damaged.

well said NOLAN!

FIRST OF ALL, never said anything about a network conspiracy! just that wahat the networks would want-and they did get it!

my whole point of this thread was the way both these series would end up and the did exactly like i thought they would> c'mon you are one of the top cappers on this site and i'm 100% sure you know what i'm talking about here! we have seen this thing happen before many times in any sports except maybe the nfl-due to them already playing on week-ends!

let me ask you this!

did you really think both series would be extended on sunday?

or better yet,

doi you really think there would have been no basketball this week-end? i doubt it, cuz i do really respect your opinions and know you have been around this for along time

my thread mainly was saying that there would be 1 series going on this week-end!

if nj lost then there would have been a game 7 between them and celtics

then i would have jumped all over kings to beat la last nite! maybe its all just a theory but it worked for me all week

from monday's game between nets and celtics i went on a 14-1 run and it wasnt just pure luck, this is what i thought would happen in these series

as for me i will play sacramento tomorow and wish you all the best and gl-on the lakers!

Jmizeus --

I'm sorry if I insulted you by saying only hoops on Sunday would be WNBA. Sorry.

No way I believe that the Networks have any say on what happens on the floor. If they did don't you think they would have gotten an exciting Super Bowl by now?

I have worked with the Networks on sports broadcasting and no way any of the leagues would let them mess around with their product. Just to get in-car cameras in NASCAR took the equivalent of a NATO Summit.

On the other hand, I agree with Nolan that it is probably in the NBA's best interest to have a high-scoring game and that David Stern and his guys can talk to the refs before the game to insure that that happens. And I'm sure that it does.

Why not..............up until last night Boston was 6-1 at hm in the playoffs and LA was 5-2 so thats 11-3. Seems pretty logical both home teams could have won.........also how many times did Boston blow a 10 pt halftime lead this season, probably not many.

I Agree........going into tonights game 6

total fouls..................LA 130 Sacto 112
total free throws shot.......LA 112 Sacto 149

So you guys tell me who is getting screwed by the refs before tonight.

Now tonight

total fouls..............LA 24 Sacto 31
total fts shot..........LA 40 Sacto 25

Which brings totals thru 6 gms
total fouls..............LA 154 Sacto 143
total fts shot..........LA 152 Sacto 174

I agree Nolan, the officiating has been atrocious but looking clearly at the numbers the lakers have been getting the worst of it especially before last nights game.

Maverick:

I agree the games are generally called in an unbiased way (not to favor either team). Bias exists with older stars (Jordan, etc). For instance, just looking at Jabbar back in his heyday was enough to get the whistle.

What I was furious about is that tiny, marginal, incedental contact is now getting whistled. Any attempt to play defense get's whistled. Hell, half the time the ball is on an UPWARD arc, and they still call goaltending.

That fourt quarter was one of the worst officiated events I have ever seen. The referees CLEARLY determined the outcome of the game.

I have made this point about NFL referees that DEFENDERS MUST BE ALLOWED TO DO THEIR JOBS. Punishing defensive backs who have an EQUAL right o go for the ball is INTENTED BY THE NFL to generate more yards, and more scoring, and more points. That way the NFL keeps the idiots crows entertained with high scoring games.

Same thing applies to the NBA. Ratings were in a freefall during the Knicks/Heat defensive era. Stern panicked. He made a decision that there must be more scoring, to get the freewheelilng, travelfest antics, and three pointers as much as possible. Touch a player who is approaching the basket, and you get the whistle blown in a half second.

It's destroying the game. Referees are swinging 15-20 points a game as determined by judgment calls, with arms and legs moving so fast they have no real idea what's going on or if contact was made.

Truly, I recommend bottles being thrown or doing something in protest. Had that game been in Sacramento instead of LA the otehr night and the calls went the same way, they would have need an armoured car and a battalian of Marines to get those referees out alive. And good riddance. Omly way Stern gets the message is to get ugly and show anger.

Out.
