She paid no Federal Tax and $800 state tax last year.

Some of her deductions:

She writes off some (maybe all) of her $7 million dollar home as her business.
She wrote off $187,000 for research.
She wrote off $ 10,000 for cosmetics.
She carried over a 2+million dollar loss.

When asked about her return when she says she is going to combat tax loopholes she said anyone who doesn't know the differrence between a loophole and a legimate tax decution should buy her book.

i'm starting to like the idea of the flat tax also. i think it is the only way to not punish the people for being successful.

is it just me , or do others also think that the more arianna opens her mouth, the more she sounds like zsa zsa.

Many wealthy people hire so-called "tax lawyers". You can bet they save millions through loopholes. The increased tax rate on the rich doesn't bother me as much as inheritance tax! Now that gets under my skin! It is double taxation no matter how you candy-coat it! I'm getting too angry now, over and out.

With a flat tax you will really hear the rich cry if you are going to take away their deductions. It is just like the riich to try to use the system to get something for free while the working man pays and pays.

in the old days, being rich meant that you were a worker and produced in society and also created jobs through your business...

today the left wing is always trying to stir up envy, greed, resentment, and jealousy towards anyone who is successful....

its bullsht class warfare....same thing Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, Nicolai Krushchev and others have done before them

whats sad, is people buy into this hatred

i agree on the flat tax....everybody pays a percentage of what they make....right across the board.....with an exception for people making under,say,$15,000 or so.....and stiff penalties for anybody caught not declaring....

There is no hate for the rich. What we have is hate for the middle class working man. If this flat tax will lower the taxes of the rich and lower the taxes of the working poor, who is left to make up the difference? That would be the middle class once again.

So which one is it, Stevie? Are rich people going to kick middle class with the flat tax or without? This is a great liberal view, though. Not quite sure, so blame the successful! Pathetic!

Not at all Dawgball. Would the rich even consider a flat tax if it counted their dividends, capital gains, and interest? See the rich do not want to count that as income when figuring the flat tax so that would actually lower the tax rate they pay vs. the middle class.

You can find out almost everything you need to know about the move to eliminate the IRS, repeal the 16th Amendment, and institute in its place a national retail sales tax at http://www.fairtax.org. Read as much as you can, then imagine what it would be like to keep virtually every penny that you earn, invest tax free, and see prices on consumer goods fall as much as 20% or more! Add to this the fact that you would receive a rebate from the government equal to the sales taxes that you would be expected to pay every year on the basic necessities of life.

taoist....have you read it yet?

Stevie--In my unprofessional opinion the flat tax is the worst thing that could happen for the middle class. The rate that the middle class pays now would HAVE to go up. If the upper class pays the majority of taxes now by paying a larger percentage, what is going to happen when their rate lowers?

Whether or not the upper class claims ALL income, which should be the case, the middle class would still lose out. The flat tax sounds good, but I don't see how it could work.

...I agree, Dawg. Let's go ahead and pass the so-called "flat tax" and I'll take wagers that it gets repealed within 2 years. We've had the tax discussion, so I won't bother to repeat my views on this flat tax subject.... Most of you already know where I stand anyway. :)

turfgrass--after reading that, I have a couple of questions. Once again, I am no tax expert. I only entered this thread because it seems everytime a money issue comes up, here comes StevieD (the mighty mouse of the middle class) to save the day and point a finger at the successful in this country.

My questions:
1. Why would consumers not begin making more purchases from outsie the US to avoid those taxes? With the birth of the internet, this has become a very easy practice.
2. Couldn't US companies place "stores" across the borders in Canada and Mexico to offer cheaper products to consumers?
3. What taxes would be paid on exported goods? Woud consumers outside the US be subjected to the same tax percentage? If so, wouldn't this lower our exportation of goods, thus hurting our economy?

These are just questions in which I am sure there are answers. Is anyone here familiar enough with this approach to shed light?

Thanks,
